  1. Buy less - it uses less resources and created less garbage.

Buy reusable - over time it costs less than disposable.

Bring your own shopping bags to the store - or if only purchasing one item - decline a bag.

Accept hand me downs, and then pass them on.

Buy smaller - cars, houses, etc. (See buy less)

Eat less red meat (cattle cause more environmental impact than chicken and fish - better yet - go vegetarian)

When possible - leave the car at home - car pool, bike, walk, & when doing errands - try to be efficient with them

Fix drips, turn off lights, unplug appliances (even turned off many still use power)

Less lawn - gas mowers pollute more than cars.

Recycle and look for recycled items when buying - especially look for 'post consumer' content.

Use less chemicals on your lawn and mulch the clippings.

Water in early morning - thuroughly 2 - 3 times a week - not lightly and more often.

Shower with a friend and save water...

    Plant a tree

Use a fan instead of air conditioning.

    Good Luck!

  2. Don't buy into the "Green" brainwashing that is going on right now. It's a corporate and political tool to control your habits and behavior, and ultimately your money. Just try to be a good steward of your environment. Call your leaders to put pressure on China and India for producing more pollution than anyone. That would actually accomplish something. Enjoy your life, don't feel guilty for living in the land of plenty.

  3. Grow a portion of your own food if you have a bit of land to do it in.  (Cheaper than buying from the store and more sustainable)

Mend the clothes you have, and if you need new shop at thrift stores. (Cheaper than the mall and more sustainable)

Eat less animal products and more vegetables, fruits, nuts, and grains. (Cheaper, healthier, and more sustainable)

Ride a bike or walk as much as you are able instead of driving. Use public transit if you have it available to you. (Cheaper, healthier, and more sustainable)

Read a book, learn a skill, take a walk, or volunteer your time instead of watching TV or shopping or driving around to entertain yourself. (Better for your mind, your body, your community, your wallet, and the planet)

  4. Don't just go green. If you really want to make a differents, do it for yourself. Buy some solar panels and that should be enough. If your young, don't bother going "green". Just throw your trash in the garbage can and whatever...

Shower with a friend and save water... - Ewww... I'm a man, I can't do that with another man..

  5. Reuse

    Recycle

    Reduse

    Renew

  6. RECYCLE, RECYCLE RECYCLE.that is probly the most easiest thing to do! you can just check the bottom of bottles and stuff for the number. decompose leftover food. take quicker showers. wash your clothes in cold water(its a fact that cold water has the same effect on clothes as warm water).  turn off lights when not in use.  use natural ingredients for cleaners etc, you can easily find recipies on-line.

  7. there are things you know already here some you may not know recycle

instead of using incandescent lightbulbs (most people have that) get compact fluorescent lightbulbs (if you don't know it is spiraled shaped.)  although it is expensive you save money at the end

no water bottles because bateria forms at the bottom if you want to reuse it, it takes at least 2-4 weeks to decompose

use nalgene bottles you can get at sport stores

say no to plastic bags have your own cloth (shopping) bag

buy at farmer's market help support the local

some things are really simple use mass transit if you can't walk long distance, turn off appliances when not in use

  8. Well, i would recommend using washable paint in case you change your mind. Just make sure you dont get the green paint in your eyes, cause that hurts.

    lol

  9. Here is a list of things you could do. Many of these options are either low to no cost, with almost all of them saving you money over time.

    1. Reduce, Reuse Recycle (Ever notice reduce comes first?)

    2. If you chose to own a vehicle own a higher efficient one like a hybrid.

    3. Live downtown & drive only when necessary.

    4. Give to various environmental charities (Union of concerned Scientists, Nature Conservancy, and the Sierra Club).

    5. Go Vegan. Probably one of the greatest positive impacts an individual can have on behalf of the environment. Meat production is more energy intensive, and creates massive amounts of methane (23x's more powerful than CO2), as well as taking up to 16 pounds of grain just to obtain one pound of beef.

    6. Buy local goods. Being a locovore is one of the keys to helping the environment. On average our food is shipped an average of 1600 miles. I buy at the local co-ops and farmers markets. I also buy local woods, fragrance sprays, clothing and more. Whatever I can find that is of decent quality and price I give priority over non-local.

    7. Gardening: I have planted many bushes trees and flowers over the last few years. I also have a food garden that brings the idea of local and sustainability to a whole new level.

    8. Compost: Saves loads on trash and its transportation.  As a bonus I need not buy fertilizers which are often petroleum based and I also save on not having to buy and ship in extra dirt.

    9. Travel Less: Especially buy plane which literally releases tones of CO2 per passenger per trip.

    10. Promote Awareness: We can't do this alone. Even a minority of mindlessly acting people can devastate the world’s environment. Without larger awareness and unity at best we are only slowing down the evitable.

    11. Write elected officials to create green laws. As always hand written and delivered correspondence yields the greatest response besides a personal meeting.

    12. Put CFL's or LED's throughout your whole house. These not only will this reduce your lighting expenditure by over 2/3rds but will also save you exponentially in monetary expense.

    13. Use solar and crank flashlights: They save me money and the environment in energy as well as the embodied energy of batteries.

    14. Use tote bags. America uses over 380 billion bags a year that will not decompose in the landfills. It simply takes keeping a few bags in your car to help you get in the habit. For me it has become engrained and is no extra effort at all.

    15. Drink filtered not bottled water which takes petroleum transformative energy for each bottle you drink and through away.

    16. Throw away a little as possible: I often find uses of people who want things in which many would through away out of either naivety or sheer laziness. My girlfriend had a broken wooden futon frame. Instead of simply tossing it I attached some of the short leftover wood pieces I had from another job to the futon frame and made a compost bin for my yard.

    17. Buy hemp products. It grows more prolifically than cotton, is stronger for making fabric, paper, and particle board and it last longer, requiring no pesticides.

    18. Buy recycled and or reclaimed goods such as toilet paper, reclaimed materials for shoes, used clothing and construction materials, etc.

    19. Add extra insulation to you house.

    20. Walk or bike where possible; Or if you must take public transportation.

    21. Use cloth napkins and handkerchiefs instead of the disposal paper ones. Just save of enough and wash them all at once and then simply reuse them again.

    22. White drapes in the summer and dark ones in the winter can help you to retain or repel heat, hence keep you more comfortable while saving you money.

  10. good for you girl

being green usually means being healthier and feeling better about yourself

go to a book store and go to the environmental section you'll come up with some great stuff - no doubt
