  1. Step 1: Remove your hamster from it's cage(put it in a ball and let him run around)

Step 2: Fill the tub with hot water

Step 3: Dismantle the cage and throw out the chips

Step 4: Soak the cage for 10 minutes

Step 5: Scrub the cage (DO NOT USE SOAP! Hamsters do not like fragrence)

Step 6: Dry everything, make sure everything is as dry as possible. A wet cage can lead to sickness in your hamster

Step 7: Put dry chips in and put the cage together (Try putting things in different places so your hamster can explore)

Step 8: Put your furry friend back in his cage

  2. I do this for my dwarf:

--I take the hamster out and put him in his rolling ball.

--Empty all contractions, ie. wheel. food bowl, water bottle, toys.

--Dump the litter/bedding to a trash can, including uneaten food.

--Take apart my cage (mine has parts) and rinse them under a light hose. Then use soap, and rinse well again. Do this with the food bowl too.

    --Assemble cage back, dry thoroughly.

--Put in clean litter/bedding, put back contractions, and lastly, of course, your hamster(:

--Fill up food bowl with fresh food and change water.

**Remember to clean his cage once a week!

    I hope this helps.

  3. remove hamster and put in safe place. Remove all bedding, wash everything thoroughly with hot water and dish liquid. Rinse very well. Dry and put back together.

  4. Just take the hamster out and put him in a ball. Then take everything out of the cage (wheel, food bowl, housing, etc.). Then dump all the bedding into the trash. Ues a paper towel or something to get the stuff off from the bottom of the cage. Disinfect it once a month, and you should be good.

  5. you should get rats! (2 of them!) they are smarter than hamsters, cleaner, they learn their name and come when you call, and they are so sweet and cuddly!                         if you dicide you want a rat instead, please email me for information!

    GOOD LUCK!!!!! :) ♥ ♥

  6. You get a garbage bag and dump all the old shavings into it, then you replace the old shavings with new ones, if you find any pee stains, scrape it (I know this sounds gross!) with any utencil. Then dump out all the old food into the garbage, and water into the sink. Then replace the food and water, do the same with the treats, and NEVER use soap while cleaning a hamsterr's cage, it could kill them if you accidentally don't dry it all the way.  Good luck and I hope I helped!

  7. Normally cleaning the cage once a week is fine if you are using good bedding like carefresh since it absorbs the smell of urine and is very comfortable for the hamsters. This cleaning must be an elaborate cleaning including washing the whole cage and all components like tunnels, food dishes, water bottles, wheels etc with soapy water and a mild disinfectant and drying them thoroughly before laying out fresh bedding and putting the hamster back in.

If you feel that the bedding is getting dirty faster, change the bedding twice a week and the major cage cleaning once a week. Also the food dish and water bottle should be cleaned every second day before refilling with fresh food and water.

When cleaning, put the hamster in a hamster ball or a temporary bin lined with bedding. Remove the cage parts and first soak it in water to which a disinfectant is added for 5 minutes. You can use the bath tub in your bathroom to do this easily. Then scrub everything with soapy water and wash under normal water until clean and all soap and disinfectant removed. You can dry the cage with tissues / cloth, though I prefer to air dry it in the sun for an hour to remove all dampness.
