Do I only talk about one issue that I have bothering me or can I talk about all of them 'cos I have a few I want to get sorted out... Will it be more difficult for me and the counsellor to work through the problems if I want to talk about all of them in the same sessions?

Like I wanna go to sort out my

- self-confidence/self-esteem

- family issues

- bereavement

- relationship problems

- job issues

Should I tell the counsellor straight up in the first session that I want help with all of these? Or should I work through one issue first then deal with the next? Because they all fall into place with each other.

  1. tell them everything, often one issue is actually related to others so if you solve the real root cause many problems get fixed.....but go see an NLP or time line therapy master practitioner rather than a psychologist or psychiatrist

  2. Tell the therapist everything!!! I went to a therapist because of a problem that I was having at work and needed suitable advice on how to resolve the issue. During my 3rd session, I found out that the issue was mentally linked to something that I'd experienced as a child. Once I realized this, I was able to get past the barrier that existed and had the confidence to confront the issue at work head on.

  3. Hi

I go and see a counsellor once a week and I went there for a certain issue, but over the year I have been there I talk about everything, from my past, to future plans, what worries me, friends, family, feelings, relationships, anything I want. This is because the issue I have that I went to counselling for can be linked to many things, I am doing a course at the moment and part of it involves counselling and techniques, one technique counsellor use is silence, it gives you space to talk about everything, anyone, don't feel that you have to plan how your sessions go, my counsellor asks how my week went and we start from there I may have something I really want to talk about that week that has happened for example a friend of mine is going through a hard time and I talked about that.

Hope this helps, let each session flow naturally and say everything you want to say don't hold back, this is the one place where you will never get judge and by telling them more you are helping them help you more,

Good Luck it takes strength to go and talk to someone, it is hard and awkward to start with but it gets so much better I have been having it for a year now and progress can be a bit slow to start with and it will go up and down but you are on the right track. :-)

EDIT: You are not wasting money or time just thought I would add, it is one of the best things I have done and it is much better than never talking about it as this can have a very negative effect on people.

This isn't a thing you can really put a time limit on as every person is individual and different, for some people it may be a few months while others a few years, never rush through your sessions as they will really help you :-)

  4. See a psychiatrist who will decide on the best treatment. Maybe therapy and anti-depressants or just therapy.

Get some exercise, it can help a lot.

    Good Luck

  5. You would just be wasting money. How about getting a special friend or boy friend that will help you on these problems. Don't bother me, Just my humble opinion.
