  1. It would be polite to get up and walk around the desk and shake hands.. and definitely not remain seated... when being introduced to a new person. that would be bad manners or it's ok for someone who is old and needs to remain seated as the person has a heart condition or a broken leg.. then yes otherwise to remain seated is arrogant.

  2. Yes,i will stand up and will say hello.

When i was small in school once my teacher told me that whenerver you are sitting and if someone comes to you than you must stand to wish him/her.But as i grew up, i have also learned that there is no need to stand up while you are working some friend comes.

So it is very simple like this:-

If you are working and if some one comes then you should stand up and wish him/her (it counts in good manners) unless that person is your friend or someone very close to you and younger to you......

  3. I stand up for anyone that I'm introduced to in any situation, work related or not work related.

  4. Personally, I remain seated... but the company I work for is very, very informal, and we exclusively employ college students for all but administrative, advisory, and technical positions.

If it's my boss making the introduction and the person is obviously not a student, I'll stand and shake hands, but otherwise I don't, nor am I expected to.  Most times, they're not there to meet me for any specific reason... they're just being shown around and introduced to all the full-timers, so introductions are kept short.

  5. I think standing up is more appropriate unless that person is already on your level on stance. If your both sitting then its mutual but for the first introduction, standing up is much pleasant and inviting.

  6. I stand up and shake hands as I greet them. It is just something I do to show respect to a new person when I first meet them and hope that they'd do the same for me sometime.Good question !

  7. Um, this I think would depend on a couple different things... if the person who is introducing someone to you is of higher level than you, I would stand and shake their hand... if it's an equal or "lesser" person, then i think you can remain seated.

If you're unsure, I would stand -- it gives a sense of professionalism.

  8. if it is convenient I stand up. But if 2 people walk into my cube there isn't enough room for me to roll the chair back & stand up.

  9. Depends on the formality of the office.  In general it's a good idea to get up and say hi, but it's not bad manners to remain seated.

  10. I stand up. Male or female.

  11. Traditionally, men stand to greet other men or women, while women remain seated. In today's society, however, and all things being equal, women should also stand to greet someone new, especially in a business setting.
