If you wanted AFL to be big overseas, what would you call it and how would you market it?

I think the name has to be neutral - not AFL. X-Man suggested 'beerball'. Though the ball doesn't look like a beer, so that would confuse Americans no end :-) (Sorry GFCB)

Any other thoughts?

  1. Ray, I don't think playing Aussie Rules will ever be a big hit here in America. But marketing the game to the USA dollar is what Andrew the Rocket Scientist and his band of idiots do not understand.

Disappointed NBA basketball, major league baseball and NHL hockey fans and the sponsorship money need to find an interesting game (not soccer--the words interesting and soccer have no relationship in the English language) to spend their dollars on.

BTW, The game is still Australian Rules Football, or just footy.

Most Americans still think that Ben Graham and Saverio Rocca were rugby players. Andrew and his wankers need to market the game to the USA, so that the fans and mostly the media understand that Aussie Rules and rugby are not the same game.

  2. grab ***

  3. Greatest Game ever

  4. ID CALL IT QUITS,in other words id give the game away-it would be a total joke and i doubt weather one of these international sides could beat my old local club.

i know someone who played in the Aussies grid iron side and they were beaten by 100 points by a high school team-the same would apply to an overseas side cheers! ray a.

  5. I really don't want it to go overseas, but if it needed a name I would suggest....Balls Of Steel!!!!

  6. I would call it the wfl world football league The best way to grow AFL overseas is for the AFL to set up a small league in say south Africa with 6 teams . Try to gain sponsors for the teams and have AFL teams sponsor and support these clubs to they can stand on there feet over time the league would shorely promote it self  the league could then grow . then each year have a special world AFL fund and promote the  game to other country's this plan in more detail i think could take about 20 years but then we would have a world league of our own.

  7. Call it BARF ball, for Bloody Aussie Rules Foot ball or not.

    Foothand ball, or Handfootball.

  8. How about keeping it here?

We would have so many other countries trying to change things to their 'style'

It's Australian so Aussie Rules is fine with me...

  9. Aussieball

As in Aussie Aussie Aussie - oy oy oy!

Because anyone who plays it has to have the second half and it helps to be the first....

  10. ok it dont look like a beer lol

    what about (man ball)

  11. If you changed the name of the sport that we call footy, then it  would cease to exist, no more footy.

It's Australian Rules Football ......  that simple you don't change the name to suit some pathetic reason.

If they don't want to play Australian Rules Football ...then they can PI$$ OFF

Why on earth would we change the name of a sport that is part of Australian Heritage to suit somebody else ?

  12. its Australian Rules Football

    A-U-S-T-R-A-L-I-A-N !!!!!!!!!!

    why doesnt anybody get that.

    its our game

    overseas people have there games

cant we have a little somthing for ourselves :@

  13. I'm with Forky, I'd call it quits the day AFL became an international sport.

Wish everyone would stop trying to Americanise everything... (no offence to my fellow American friends!!).
