  1. yes because we should accept only intelligent people in universities but only to be sure that they have minimum IQ not for other purposes

this should be 30 % of admission requirements.

for the rest we cam use interviews, essays, cv analysis etc.

  2. No, because we have enough labels on people already without adding more. We are not merely defined by our IQs, there is more to people than that! When you label somebody you also limit them and confine them to a box. It would also be classified as discrimination.

For yes.....I think it would make those who make the cut know that they are working and going to school with people on equal footing. I dunno...there will be less variety. (Am having a hard time arguing for the yes side).

  3. The pro is that IQ is something innate and it would be good to know their mental ability to avoid placing someone in a situation where they have no aptitude to met required demands.

The con is that it can be over-used as a gate keeper, how will people possibly grow to their fullest potential? I worry about labels. I know IQ tests have been validated more than any other selection instrument, but over-reliance could do more to limit potential than promote it.

  4. no..

  5. ummm... what?

  6. ...*answer both sides of question "pro & con"?

So you are not actually asking us for our opinion, then draw your own conclusions and write up a report - but you would like us to give you both sides of the argument, i.e. do/help a lot with your homework. Why don't you just put it like that instead of making it look like a survey?

My opinion is: no, it should not. IQ tests are influenced by such a variety of factors that concluding a future employee's or student's actual performance from its result would be outright laughable.

  7. Standardized tests should not be used exclusively, but coupled with academic performance on the student's transcript and references from teachers and others who know the student.  Some students don't test  well.  To absolutize tests is dangerous.  I am a public school teacher and we are now having to suffer through a dark time in education in which tests are the absolute measure in a high stakes game.  I've had many students in my classroom who are very intelligent, but don't test well.  It would not be fair to use standardized tests in isolation to judge employment or academic admission.  However, tests should not totally be banished because they can, when properly administered, offer an objective snapshot of the student.  The yard stick for grades varies from school to school depending on the area and culture of the school.   References may be more about who is likeable, based on personality.  All in all, a comprehension portfolio of standardized test data, grades, references, extracurricular history, etc. will need to be perused by admissions and employment in determining worthiness of entry.
