okay what do i need to take i been there in the summer (kodiak, AK) and its nice but now my family and i are go live there and i LOVE getting tan, will my skin tone change? can i even get a tan over there? or should i take some kind of cream to make skin more tanish? (and this is very important for me because tan is "in" and i dont want pale) what other items do i need, clothes, UGG boots lol you name it. btw i'm leaving on 21st of august so i need to shop asap and school is staring on 25th of aug. do you think i'll be able to work things out and what do i have to do?

Focus on winter gear, because that is what you will need most of the time.  There is a company called Canada Goose that makes everything you will need in terms of outer wear.  You will need more sweaters and long sleeve shirts than in the south.  People tend to dress very casually, so you won't need a lot of clothes, just sensible clothes.  You will need sunglasses, even in winter - sun on snow is very bright.  Bring a good lip sun screen/balm with you as your lips can get quite chapped from winter wind and sun.  Pack some good books and other entertainment items - ipod, wii, whatever is important to you.  It might be a good idea to pack the school supplies you like to use as they will cost much more in Alaska and might not be easily available.  You should also pack any special products you like such as shampoo, moisturizer, etc.

I would concentrate on mosquito repellant rather than the tan.  You will have the tan covered by the time late August comes around.  Good warm and water proof footwear is a must if you are planning on living there all year round.  Parkas would probably be one of the in things for there.  Mittens as well.  The do wear shorts during the summer and regular summer attire, but the wearing time is minimal compared to the lower 48
