Im 17 and 12 weeks pregnant. The 25th of this month i got in a car accident with my best friend who was driving. We skidded into a guardrail going about 60-65 mph. Luckily i had my seatbelt on and had no serious injurys. My main worry was the baby. Its been two days and im really sore. The doctors kept me over night to see if there would be any changes with the baby. I havent had any bleeding. Regular Discharge, Minor cramping of the legs. The doctor said there was no need for a sono considering i had no signs of having anything wrong with the baby. So i took his word. Im making an apt for my obgyn to get a sono to make sure everything is okay. Am i over reacting? And can the baby really be okay?

  1. If you're not bleeding or having pain, odds are baby is fine. A car accident usually isn't going to harm a baby at that gestation unless there was massive abdominal trauma. If YOU aren't seriously injured, then your baby isn't likely to be either.

But by all means, if a sonogram will put you mind at ease, then have one (if the doctor will order it when you request it- you can't just demand to have one).

Good luck, I'm sure things are fine!

  2. The baby is very well protected.  Unless you had serious injuries yourself, the baby didn't notice much more than maybe a bit of bouncing around.

Since you haven't had any bleeding or cramping, those are also excellent signs that things are fine.

Worrying is normal, and going to the obgyn for a scan is not overreacting.  Since the baby is too small to feel movement, a scan is going to definitely tell you that you have nothing more to worry about.

Glad to hear you and your friend are okay!  I'm sure the baby is fine, too.

  3. the baby can be ok but I am surprised that they didn't do a sono just to make sure.  but your obgyn will probably be more cautious about the baby's well being than the er docs...their main concern was caring for you not the baby

  4. If the doctor said he wasn't worried then I wouldn't be worried either.

  5. You're not overreacting at all. You're absolutely doing the right thing.

You and the baby should both be fine as long as you're not having any bleeding, spotting or heavy discharge. Remember, some discharge is very normal during pregnancy.

You're not going to stop worrying until you see for yourself that the baby is OK. That's completely normal.

I fell down the stairs when I was pregnant with my daughter. She turned out just fine. I hope this helps. :)

  6. Book an appt anyway - an you defo are not over reacting.  If they say they believe they don't think anythink is wrong, then lie..  Tell them you are having slight cramps - which they will then refer you to have a scan.  i know it is naughty, but you want to make sure your baby is ok and without seeing it for youself, you won't settle and worry about EVERYTHING!!!

But I do believe your baby is fine and you have nothing to worry about..  An as for is the baby kicking - don't panic your baby is roughly the size of a plum and is only now starting to move his or her fingers. You still cannot feel your baby moving because he/she is so tiny...

    Good Luck with the scan....x

  7. Remember that the baby is very safe and protected in your womb. As a pregnant woman you have every reason to 'over-react' because it is your baby and you are worried about your baby. If the doctor said it was fine, I'm sure they are right, but go ahead with the U/S just to calm your nerves, because stress is never good for anyone especially a pregnant woman.

Scott- She is 12 weeks...She wouldn't feel that......

  8. Your baby is safe inside you. But as any mom you will worry so the best thing to do is make that appt and have your obgyn do his or her own observation.

  9. yep! That baby can and probably is alright!!

When i was 4 weeks pregnant I fell out of a car going about 50 mph and landing on the concrete and lost consciousness. I thought for sure my baby wouldnt make it but now im 13 weeks and the baby is doing great.

Make the appointment but don't worry too much. I think you both are probably fine. If it makes you feel better in the mean time and you have good insurance - go in to the docs office or the er to get a heartbeat check.

  10. Yes, the baby is probably okay.

At this stage in your pregnancy, the baby is floating comfortably, surrounded by fluid in the amniotic sac which acts as a "shock absorber" for any sudden movements or bumps.  Since you are having no bleeding it is highly unlikely that anything is wrong.

If you are still stressed out about it, have an ultrasound done just to reassure yourself that everything is okay.

  11. Your baby should be fine!!

Have a scan just to stop yourself worring but remember there tough little things!!

    xx

  12. There is no real way to know unless you get an ultrasound done.  I am sure your baby will be fine since you are not having any type of unusual discharge or anything.  At this stage in pregnancy, I was told that the baby is so protected since he/she is still so very small.  I know it is hard but try not to worry too much.  The baby can sense that you are stressing and that alone is not good for your little one.  Good luck and I just said a little prayer for you and your baby.
