  1. Prostitution is also illegal in Tijuana. However, there is a brothel on property owned by the mayor of Tijuana.

    --------------

As of right now it is against state law. The state of Nevada prohibits prostitution in the Clark County and Washoe County (Reno) only. All other counties have the option of deciding  on the county level if they want to legalize prostitution.

    --------------

Mayor Oscar Goodman is in favor of legalizing prostitution in Clark County, but he doesn't have the authority on his own. Obviously he is concerned about the worst aspects of prositution, abuse to the prostitute, thievery, and the spread of disease.

    --------------

Open advertisements in the form of fuzzy newspapers for escorts are fairly common in many large cities. What seems to set Las Vegas apart is the people who hand out the cards and the drive by trucks with the advertisement.

People get very used to vice. Once it's been around for a while it is hard to get rid of it. In europe there is a growing movement to combat prostitution. It is partly because of the growing awareness that prostitution is now being organized on a global scale, and it involves human trafficking from third world countries, and slavery and brutal assaults are becoming more and more part of the business. Drug cartels are dabbling in prostituion rings.

  2. "As of right now it is against state law. The state of Nevada prohibits prostitution in the Clark County and Washoe County (Reno) only. All other counties have the option of deciding on the county level if they want to legalize prostitution."

This is technically incorrect -- NRS 244.345, which governs the operation of brothels in counties, only specifically applies to Clark County.  This particular section of statute prohibits brothels and prostitution in counties with a population of 400,000 or more, and Clark County is statutorily the only county that meets this threshold.

While Washoe County's population has exceeded 400,000 in 2007, according to the Census, NRS 0.050 defines population as the population determined by the Census Bureau following the decennial census (the last one being in 2000).  In other words, according to state law, Washoe County's population is still less than 400,000 until the year 2010, because it was less than 400,000 during the year 2000.

The statutory prohibition against brothels will apply to Washoe County following the 2010 Census (unless the 2009 or 2011 Sessions of the Nevada Legislature choose to change the population threshold), but for now, Washoe County's prohibition against brothels and prostitution is due to county ordinance, not state law.

All that having been said, though, the operation of escort services in Las Vegas (or anywhere, for that matter, where prostitution is illegal) run the fine line between legal and illegal, likely leaning towards illegal.  These businesses operate under the assumption that one is paying for companionship between two adults, and whatever happens between those adults is between those persons alone.  That's where it becomes fuzzy, though -- the s*x itself is, essentially, the unspoken portion of the assumption (that the person paying for the companionship has an expectation of s*x, and hence, that is actually what is being paid for.)

  3. These escort sevices are a total scam! I an born and raised in Vegas, 40 years, I've got all the answers for anything. I ran a casino for 10 years, was a valet parking attendent for 5 years, drove a cab for a year.

just look me up if you have any ??? about the armpit of the world! Vegas was a great place to play 10 years ago!

  4. Several years ago they tried to outlaw the advertising of those services. However the ACLU stepped in and won the right for those skum bags to advertise since they say it is a freedom of speach to advertise anything. Therefore they are allowed to hand out those disgusting cards that clutter the strip and offend most people. Thank you ACLU for protecting the rights of skum bags like you normally do.

  5. Just because something is illegal doesnt mean its strictly enforced, or enforced at all.

VEgas is still sin city. Even though prostitution is illegal, cops really dont go out of their way to enforce it. They would have to arrestes thousands of people every day if they were to do that.

  6. Escort services and call girls can get around the rather lax Las Vegas prohibition on prostitution by not actually offering s*x. If you hire an escort, you are paying money to have a girl come to your room, nothing else. Whatever happens behind closed doors is up to you and the escort.

  7. An Escort is just that an Escort. My brother in-law is a cop here and I can tell you prostitution is not tolerated in Clark County. If you play you pay :)

  8. Some times what is advertised is not what you think you will be getting.  If you want the real deal travel to Pahrump where "houses" are legal, about an hours dive.
