Question:

So is it Prince Charles or Prince William that's next in line?

After Diana's death I've heard talk that some people prefer Prince William as next in line for King instead of Prince Charles. Isn't he next in line though? Can someone explain this? What do you think?

  1. There is a family line of succession involving the eldest son, then next eldest, until run out of sons, then do daughters same way.

Under this logic, the son of the queen is next in line, then his eldest son.

However, the next monarch must be approved by the head of the church of England, and there are some questions about whether certain candidates have lived an exemplary enough life.

I personally believe there are some flaws in the upbringing of potential future monarchs that lead many to have serious character flaws, and disconnection from their people.

I think they ought to compete with everyone else to have a normal career.  They are less likely to need to take a leave of some job because they became the next monarch, than a woman, in the work force, is likely to get pregnant.  Just apply the same family leave provisions for royalty, and the result will be future leaders who have a good understanding of the temptations, trials and tribulations of their people.

    Commenting on an earlier post

Note that the Queen's husband is NOT King, but Prince Phillip.  By this reasoning, Camilla would NOT be Queen, but some other title.  The mate of the King or Queen, if they themselves are not in line of succession, they are not King or Queen, they are just the mate of the monarch.

  2. Prince Charles and then Prince William

  3. Queen Elizabeth's oldest son, Charles.

  4. if Prince Charles is alive when Queen Elizabeth dies, he will be the next King no buts about it.  However he if he was mentally ill or abdicated then Prince William would become King.   The Royals with a stiff upper lip very, very rarely ever give up a throne voluntarily that's why the abdication of the heir, Edward back in the 30's was outrageous to all of England.  He abdicated so he could  marry an American divorcee, Wallace Simpson.  Royalty could not marry a woman who had for want of a better word, been around the block a few times.  that is why people despise Camilla Parker Bowels.  She had an adulterous affair with Charles Behind her husband's back and Diana's back and Diana was like the virginal lamb led to the slaughter

If those 2 had any guts they would have married in the first place , told the Queen to take a flying leap and all these lives wouldn't be so permanently damaged, but no Prince Tampon had to do what Mommy said and marry a virgin.

So 2 boys have no Mom , the mor**n that caused the whole thing gets to live happily ever after with his adulteress and Diana';s in her grave.  I seems wrong that the lily-livered adulterer gets to have the Happy ending.

  5. under the speculation with his affair with Camilla and his ugly divorce with Diana, the rumour is that the next in line will be William to "Start clean on a new line".

    Hope this helps.

  6. It is not up to the people to decide who is the next king of England. Then the Head would be a President. Which England does not currently have.

    Charles is next in line

If Elizabeth dies tomorrow, then Charles is king.

  7. Neither, its ME!!!

  8. There are really only two ways that William could get it assuming Charles is alive: either Charles would have to give up his right (abdicate) or else Charles would have to marry a Roman Catholic, which is a bar to becoming king under English law.  Marrying a divorcee or anything else is not.  And, Al M, please note that the monarch is the head of the church of England, and to inherit the throne he does not need the approval of anyone in the church.  To be sure, the Archbishop of Canterbury could refuse to crown him king, thus causing a huge scandal, but it would not matter.  He would still be king, plus someone else could crown him.

  9. Prince Charles is the heir to the throne;everything else you hear is just  rumor,or people's opinions. William and then Harry are after their father in line of succession. Here's the current list:

    Line of succession

There are some people who believe that since Charles married a div0rced woman, he should not be king. There are others who believe that he is not fit to be king and should step down in favor of his son, William;but these are just people's opinions based on the unfortunate history of Diana and Charles' marriage disaster. No one knows how Charles will do as king. The current laws of succession say that Charles,as the Queen's eldest son, is next in line for the throne.

  10. i have no idea. but it would be weird. a king instead of a queen. i dont know why but it just seems weird to me.

  11. It's true that people would prefer that William be king, but because of the lineage Charles will be king and Camilla with be queen then William will be king upon Charles's death.
