Question:

So is the future of this planet.....?

....going to be similar to that of the Movie "Water World" again? It seems as though it is surely heading that way.

Well, it looks like we need to start investing in Boats, and cultivating for our children as oppose to education; especially since the Education system here in the US is so crappy anyway. Either that or we save up enough money to help them afford a Space Shuttle Flight to the next planet our Specie is already planning to inhabit; that is in the event that they even find one....I know they are working on it.

The thing that really gets me though is we sit here as MAJOR consumers (America being at top of those charts) and completely wipe out rainforests, water, and pollute anything we touch....and once we are done it's like we let out a large Belch and presume to say, "Whelp, what's next!?”

Have we as human specie even learned what it means to evolve, adapt, and live in balance with nature yet? Or are we just going to keep bouncing around the Universe from planet to planet repeating the same ignorant mistakes?

Yes, history will in fact repeat itself.

  1. Eventually the Earth is going to be enveloped by the sun and we will be forced to leave regardless of how at peace we are with our environment.  But that's many many years down the road.

  2. The difference between rich people and poor people is that poor people have to live in their own trash, while rich people can make somebody else live in their trash.

  3. if the planet some how turned into a water world, then i think we do not need to worry about it at all,coz there will be no human left to witness it,why u might ask,coz if the global warming increased and the sea levels increased due to the melting of the 2 poles, then the dry land area will gradually start to decrease, and then countries and people will move to higher lands and there for there will be a struggle over the remaining dry land, thus war will rise, and nukes will be used and stone age will arise after that coz civilization will be gone after the third world war which will be nuclear, then if there are some humans left they will die from the struggle with diseases and animal seeking dry lands.and with no medicine since civilazation was gone in ww3,and no way of protecting our self from the survival of the fittest struggle with other species seeking refuge on the last remaining dry land in the planet earth, since we r back in the stone age then animals will rule.and humanity will be extinct.there for there is no need to worry about a water world, since most of us will die in the nuclear ww3.

  4. They can't reserve going to other planets when the world is ending for the super rich only they are gonna make it commercial for everyone.

  5. Please don't use major motion pictures to frame your knowledge of science.  Don't rely on major motion pictures for details either.

Really, Hawaii would not be above water if Denver was below.

If the ice caps melt entirely, i'm still high and dry here in Michigan.  200 meters above sea level is plenty.  And yet, Florida will likely be flooded.

  6. First, don't rely on Hollywood for you science.

Second, massive changes in climate take a long time to occur. No matter what Al Gore say, Florida will not be under water in 50 years. The Earth may have been completely covered with water in the past. The Earth has also been completely frozen in the past. These things take millions of years to occur. Much greater than one human lifetime. That's plenty of time for us to adapt.

Third, I am not sure what 'ignorant mistakes' you are referring too. All life forms have an instinct to survive. Some passively gather sunlight. Others have sharp teeth and eat other life forms. Humans have the ability, and intelligence, to manipulate their environment. If we use up everything on Earth and don't seek out new resources in the solar system and ultimately the galaxy, well that's our fault. Keep in mind that over 95% of all species of life that have ever existed in Earth is now extinct. If we flub up, the universe is not going to miss us.

  7. >Have we as human specie even learned what it means to evolve, adapt, and live in balance with nature yet?

I for one don't think 'living in balance with nature' is really a long-term solution, nor should it ever be considered one. As intelligent, technological beings, simply accepting our environment and allowing ourselves to stagnate in order to live in peace with it is not what we do. We don't serve nature; we make nature serve us. This is what we've been doing for thousands of years. Ever since primitive humans set fire to prairie grass in order to scare animals off cliffs, through planting seeds and making crops grow while pulling out the weeds, past boiling water and generating power to move boats and trains, past breaking our Universe's atoms apart to release the energy they contain, we have always been the ones to conquer nature, not to merely accept it. Therefore, the key to sustainability and survival is not to set up barriers to our own construction and development, but rather to go about that construction and development in a careful, responsible manner. Chopping down a whole forest and building dozens of huge factories may be a dumb idea, but that doesn't mean that building a few little mud huts and living there for centuries is a smart one; the correct path is somewhere inbetween. Or to put it another way, we must reach for the sky, but we also have to plant our feet on the ground, and too much of either one without enough of the other leads to either stagnation or extinction.

    >Or are we just going to keep bouncing around the Universe from planet to planet repeating the same ignorant mistakes?

No, I don't believe we will. But how soon we stop repeating the same ignorant mistakes depends on how soon we're willing to look at what we've done with complete logic and honesty and accept the facts for what they are. We've spent enough time chasing shadows.

    >Yes, history will in fact repeat itself.

The accelerating development of technology disagrees with you.

  8. U very right,in the good old days when civilization hadn't reached it 's peak an human life was not worth a penny, ppl sustained themselves on what they could eat an find an then population was kept low.Horses, carts an beasts that don't pollute the environment even to 0.0000000000005% (ironically) were used. Now if countries start developing like china ,india,an other more developing countries, what will they use in generating electricity?for their cars ,factories...Time has changed we know but if we are to reduce the rate of this pollution then u know for sure that industralization will be reduced an everything will be back to old times(an this is what nobody wants.)So even if modern techniques are used like solar power, wind power...we know this can't still solve this economic problem because more generations are coming which will even be more than this population an do more other things we are still discussing.I don't mean civilization should be stopped because even if it's stopped, that can't stop the future generations. What we can do is to reduce the amount of cars that ply the road,(especially in developed countries),recycle the unused well, plant more gardens an trees which will take up the bad polluting environment,an even also reduce the amount of factories in a region.

  9. Don't worry about going to another planet, that's not going to happen anytime soon, but once and if it does happen, its going to be reserved for the super rich only, it wouldn't be for common people.
