i havnt heard about it in awhile and it seems that it is not going to happen anymore. Is the threat over?

The threat is never over, and it could happen again without any warning.

The last outbreak was pretty much eradicated with the slaughter of any birds that were even possibly exposed to the flu.

It only takes one infected bird to start the whole process over again.
