  1. when I introduced my 1st female to the Male. He wasn't interested. I bought a second one and he started to build. It takes time and patience if you're trying to breed. I had to take half a styraphome cup and tape it to the side. He started to build the nest within the next day. Hope I held you and good luck!!

  2. You may need to take the female out and add her to a different tank.

  3. i'm going to assume you are attempting to breed them and have already read about how to do that and have them properly conditioned for breeding.

Remove the female until he builds a nest. Then when he builds a nest put her in the breeding tank carefully. If she gets horizontal stripes it means she is stressed and not ready to breed. Remove her and re-condition them for another 2 weeks.

If she shows vertical bars it means she is ready to begin the spawning process. Leave her in the tank and watch them carefully. Sometimes it takes alot of chasing eachother around before they actually begin wrapping and spawning. it could take 24-48 hours or just a few hours. Unless he is really ripping her up or vice versa leave her in there but stick around in case you need to rescue her. Or him lol.

  4. A male betta is always ready to do his duty, nest or no nest.  If your female is ready, prepare the breeding tank with lot of plants bunched up in one corner (a hiding place for the female when the male becomes overly aggressive and you don't have to be there to protect the female).   Introduce her to him, he will build a nest as time goes by because of the female presence.  During this time all the chasing and the biting will occur,  If he becomes too aggressive she will retreat to the hiding place, when the female is ready, she will approach him ,head down tail up almost vertical and snakes her way towards him and the love making starts.  Carefully remove the female and the plants when the love scene is over.
