Just saw a story on the news that poor folks in Mexico can barely afford a tortilla anymore, what is more important, driving or feeding the people?

  1. Ethanol from corn is an example of politics at its worst.  The solution is to not go down that road, but we are already started down the road.

  2. Been there, the poverty in Mexico has far less to do with the price of corn, than it does with a very very rotten government.  To look at it in prospective, they have huge oil reserves, who is making the money off that?  they have no issue making and selling tequila either.   Don't blame the failure on their government to do what is right on our cars.  They are not one in the same.

  3. it is ridiculous to use corn as a fuel source. The Corn lobby is strong in America though. It is not feasable to grow enough corn even if we converted all land to growing corn which is an energy intensive crop in it self to grow, Sugar Beets should be used since they contain more sugar than corn and hardly anyone eats sugar beats

  4. Corn causes Cancer anyway. That goes for the corn in cereals and soft drinks.

  5. What people need to know is that corn-based ethanol is not a godsend. It takes way more energy to produce, takes up way more land, and drives up the price of almost all agricultural products. Oh, yeah, it also burns dirtier than fossil fuels, meaning more global warming! Its consequences are widespread and almost entirely negative, but if you want to ruin the U.S. agriculturally to follow the latest trend, go ahead.

  6. Ethanol from corn is worse than a scam. it is irresponsible.  It is not sustainable and would not exist without HUGE subsidies. "If our government is for it, God must be against it"

  7. They can use sage grass instead...it's cleaner and more effecient. It grows wild everywhere in MD. As a matter of fact, that is the seed that the MD Dept of Transportation uses on the roadside here. The clippings can be bagged and sent to a plant. But - no one wants to admit to it I guess....

  8. True and to boot, more farmers are changing crops from hops to corn.

    Where's the beer?

  9. Obviously driving................the rich don't eat tortillas.
