  1. Pilots get more chicks than a boring dentist.

  2. Years ago I was working in a central London hospital telephone exchange and knew all of the Doctors ~ who came and went, did training and rotations etc.

One guy, a dentist, turned up for a party around Christmas and came along for a chat ~ fully bearded and tanned and looking like he'd stepped from out of the wilderness.

His story (of where he'd been for the past couple of years) was working as a 1: Dentist and 2: both Dentist & Bush pilot ferrying himself around up amongst the Inuit in northern Canada.

How's about that for a job?

    Sash.

  3. Sure flying is not easy and not cheap to learn, but then dental school is expensive, too. Some colleges offer flight training as part of degree programs, and have school owned planes, no to mention they help you get your license.

The other option is to look at the military for flight training. You don;t need to be a fighter pilot, they have helicopters, cargo and passenger planes, etc. They actually pay YOU to learn to fly ... but don't sign up unless you are guarenteed the training.

  4. I go to Embry Riddle in Daytona and we have a ton of airforce people who come back from tours and get the military to pay for tuition. Other schools to try would be Auburn and Purdue. Im sure one of those two would have a dental program. good luck.

  5. One of my neighbors is a dentist who works for a company that sells dental equipment and supplies.  He flies his own twin-engine airplane over a territory of about five states in pursuit of his business, and has a great time.

So there are opportunities like that for imaginative people.  Finish your dental training and keep talking to the sales guys.

I have another friend who is a veterinarian who specializes in a problem that happens with expensive stock animals.  He flies all over the country in his STOL airplane to check on people's prize bulls.  If you enjoy fiddling with the back end of 2500-pound animals, it's a great career.

Keep thinking--there is something out there.
