So proud of Detroit City!?

No bashing or you'll be reported... but, I just wanted to ask those who live in Detroit a question:

Are you proud of living in our city? Despite the poverty and the crappy mayor, I love this city. Downtown Detroit is absolutely breathtaking. I think it's a smaller, less crowded version of New York City.

I'm only posting this because I just bought the most incredible loft in the world, with the greatest downtown views & the excitement and pride is getting to me!

I'm so tired of the bad rep of this place.. I love it with all my heart.

Take a look for yourself :)

  1. Awww...You just made my day!  Your pics were spectacular and I am so glad to hear positive things.  I live near Los Angeles, but I was born in a house on the corner of Monica & 8 Mile Rd. in 1928 and later moved to Highland Park, and 20 yrs. later moved to Calif.  My last visit to H P was about 10 yrs ago and, I sat in my car, outside our old house, and cried.  The whole area looked like a war zone with burned houses everywhere and sinks and toilets laying around.  Stores on hamilton were empty shells and boarded up, burned out interiors.  It was so awful!  I've heard that it is better now, though.   In your pics, I could even pick out the building where I worked as a 21 year-old secretary.  Downtown looks beautiful and good luck in your new loft!  And, thanks for making this old gal perk up a bit!   I love the pics!

  2. I love Detroit and despite its problems, I will always love it.

Congrats on your new digs, but your defensive attitude is a big turn-off. I understand your pride, but you start off by threatening folks and finish by telling everyone to "look at themselves".

Gosh, I bet your new place is great, the neighborhood cool and the commute a dream; but your attitude makes me want to run in the opposite direction.

Good luck with taking some of your own advice..

  3. That is a very beautiful view!

BTW: Greek town is the BOMB!

  4. Wow..you're right...those are  breathtaking views of downtown Detroit!  While I don't necessarily agree that Detroit is a smaller version of NYC (hard to top NYC for nightlife, theatre, sights, etc...can you tell I love NYC) I do agree that Detroit does not get the credit it deserves.  Great sports teams (I went to my first Tiger game at Comerica last week...awesome park) great suburbs, great recreation!

I live in Windsor and I love taking advantage of all that Detroit and its suburbs has to offer.  Personally, I think I get the best of both worlds...small town amenities, with big city action.  Go Detroit!

  5. It may be the easiest thing to do is find and say something negative about Detroit.  While the city does have a tough image, I do believe there a lot of positives that people do not recognize.  It is good to see downtown cleaner and with more businesses opening up.  The nightlife is very good and the quality of life is improving.  This will spill into some of the neighborhoods, but will take some time.  There is so much culture to explore.  I think the Dequindre Cut will be just as valuable as the river walk.  The abundance of hotel rooms is a great start.  Other businesses should be able to feed off of these and help with the growth.  The developments need to continue like the demolition of Tiger Stadium, the rehab of the Book Cadillac and the Fort Shelby and the eventual coming of Quicken to build on 2 properties.

I think you are a very good example of what is good in Detroit.  You will get to experience a lot in your new location.

  6. I live in Toledo and I basically consider it a suburb of Detroit. People who talk down about it have never been there. Sure it has its dirty parts, but don't all big cities? I love Detroit and go there often. Its always a good time.

  7. Thanks for posting something positive about Detroit. You have shown people the beautiful things that Detroit has to offer. I think that Downtown Detroit is an awesome place to visit. I can imagine how proud, excited, and happy you are to live downtown in loft with a great view.

  8. Welcome to the neighborhood, I love my city.

  9. Well i'm not from Detroit but visited the city in May and I must say that I absolutely loved it! It has so much culture and downtown has so many interesting places to visit.  I live in Las Vegas and mostly everyone told me it was a dangerous and dirty place to visit but when I returned I set them straight.I am going back in September and can't wait to discover more of this city.

  10. There are many great things about Detroit that remains hidden to the rest of America, and the rest of the world.

If people can get past all of the negative media attention, and stereotypes the media tends to throw around about Detroit, people will be able to see Detroit for the quality and hospitable city it really is.

I have personally been to several other large cities in the U.S. some where good experiences, and some where not. One example I can give is the crappy experience I had in Miami. The media tends to portray Miami as this paradise that is the prime example of America, however in reality Miami is full of rude, arrogant, snotty SOB's who UI could care less about. Detroit on the other hand, including the time I have lived there, I always felt at home and usually have good run ins with other residents.
