Hey!

Tomorrow I'm going to my brother's college on an Amtrak train.

It's about a 3 1/2 hour ride. I've been on trains before like the public ones but they are like for 20 min not 3 1/2 hours.

I'm scared of crashing or something.

I've been on planes but ugg I'm still scared

  1. Even I never taken Amtrak, you have nothing to be scared off.

Amtrak has lots of coach including sightseeing louge car to see the view depends on which Amtrak. Also some Amtrak has Thruway coach connection.

  2. you shouldnt be scared at all its alot of fun!

ok i rode an Amtrack train from chigago to san francisco (The Califorina Zepher) and another one from LA to chicago (The Southwest Chief) the only problem i had was sleeping!!! because i didnt get a sleeper car. i had spent over 3 days on a train with my family

but anyway you are riding a shorter train and they will not have sleeper cars or dining cars (more than likely) but they will have a cafe car where you can go and bye a soda and some food (yeah its kinda expencive) they let you bring food on if you want to do that instead though. they also have booths so you can sit down and eat your food too.  the chairs are pretty comfy, and the workers are very friendly. if you have a laptop you can bring it because shorter trains have a few plugs in every seat.  but dont worry you dont have to share seats because they arent that crowded.

    enjoy your trip!!

  3. The odds are much, much greater that you'll be involved in a traffic accident on the way to the depot.

Rails are consummate professionals, certified and definitely clean and sober.  On that trip to the depot, every tenth car you pass will have a driver behind the wheel who is none of the above.

So, if you make it to the depot unmolested, there should be nothing else to worry about for your trip... until it's time to climb into another automobile.

  4. train are very safe you shouldnt worry about trains crashing

the only problem is that train personal do have to worry

aboiut people tresspassing on the tracks and jerks

who try to beat the train or go around crossing gates

which sort messes up their day if the two colllled

but the good news the train usualy wins

(the tressapers  usually get a free trip to heaven quickly)

  5. you should stay up late so you will be a sleep on the train

  6. I actually got married on a train.......

I was just as scared......But more of tying the knot.

    That was 11 years ago.

    You'll do fine.

  7. I was kind of weary about getting on the Marc train (like an Amtrack) for the first time.  However, it was really great.  The ride was smooth and comfortable.  The seats were safe.  It was nice to watch the passing by of the scenery and not have to worry about traffic.  I got to listen to my music for that time too.  I If I got bored I would ask the conductor all about how the trains work.  I learned a lot, had peace and quiet and felt safe.

I think it is much safer then riding in a car.  Ever seen what a train can do to a car?

Best of luck.  They are fun.

  8. Cindy-

My wife and I are avid Amtrak travlers.  You are going to have fun.

We take the Amtrak Coast Starlight from San Jose, CA into Seattle, WA twice per year.  Its a nice trip.

Something tells me that once you have this nice ride, you are going to get bit by the Amtrak Bug.

Enjoy your trip, above all; RELAX let Amtrak do the work!

  9. The train is a very safe means of transport. It's made that way because of e.g. the interlocking system which ensures that once a route is set for the train no other route can conflict with it.

A train can't be sent forward to the next section on the line until the dispatcher has ascertained the line ahead is clear. In the past, they did this by telegraph. Today they use mainly radio.

So relax and enjoy the ride. You're much safer on a train than going by car.

  10. Hi Cindy, Please don't be worried about your safety on a train. Its much safer than a car. The only worry I would have is how to relieve the boredom. As suggested, take your ipod, laptop or books, to pass the time. Its a very very safe way to travel. Enjoy!

  11. its not very often that a train crashes and if ur scared about take something like a ipod or PSP mp3 player to help make time go faster and make sure the batterys are new so it wont stop when ur in the train

  12. Trains are way safer than cars.  You have nothing to worry about.  Amtrak is awesome.  Have fun!
