This very sensitive subject fall on?

Personally as a single parent I believe it is my responsibility not the governments, schools, or any one else.. I think this about drugs also. And if a parent or guardian is not doing the job they should be held accountable. Just my opinion. Any thoughts please?

  1. I agree, parents should be responsible for teaching their children s*x education and the dangers of drugs.  However, if I do all I can to make my children knowledgeable to s*x, drugs and consequences and they choose to go out and do them anyway, especially on the brink of becoming a legal adult, I don't see how I can be held responsible.  Who really follows their 17 year old kids everywhere they go to make sure they will not misbehave?  Nobody I know...you teach them what you can and hope they take your advice, and hoping is all you can do...

  2. It is always first and foremost the parents responsibility, but unfortunately there are MANY parents who are not stepping up and actually doing this.  I am 25 so high school was not that far away for me.  I know that even if the school system does not teach you s*x ed your peers will, and their info is usually totally inaccurate or just down right ridiculous, but to a 15 or 16 year old it may sound totally logical.  At least if there is s*x ed in schools teens are getting ACCURATE information.  And PLEASE do not be fooled into thinking that by implementing this it will encourage teens to have s*x.  There is already plenty of that occurring already at least this way they will be more knowledgeable and engage in safer practices.

  3. I think the facts should be taught at school, such as anatomy, how conception occurs, HIV/AIDS/STD education. Just the facts, the moral/religious aspect should be left to the parents, not all are educated in the medical "facts" about many of these matters. The government does have a dog in this fight when most of the young women who get pregnant have to go on public assistance if for nothing more than for the prenatal care and cost of delivery.

  4. We can't leave it up to the parents because some parents are really dumb.

There isn't a test or requirements to become a parent so let the school just teach them.

  5. I'm not sure WHO should be teaching it, but it's as plain as day that the "abstinence-only" message doesn't work!

  6. i agree with you on all social concerns it is ultimately the parents job to teach morality, good manners, and social skills. i think a parent should take it a step further and actively participate and regulate what the govt and our media force feed a young impressionable mind.

however wouldnt you agree some parents have bad views, poor graces and just shouldnt be parents to begin with. so i think a neutral guideline should be administered for those kids with S****y parents. its hard to say what is neutral. i think abstinence is perhaps the most neutral view pt t take, berfit of the religious connotations that when in doubt you should just not do something. however education has always been my opinion the best policy, and while some may disagree on when an individual should really be able to decide what is best for themselves i say put it out there... if they are curious, direct where they can find the resources to satisfy their curiosity without passing judgment or instructing them on what they should do when encountered with a questionable situation.

i draw the line on handing out condoms. its a waste of resources and tax money. i dont think anyone in our govt is qualified to make that kinda call on when its ok to breed and not. if a kid wants a condom they can work a part time job and buy one. i did. that is called responsibility. the govt should be teaching THAT, not let me do it for you, you are too stupid to know what is best for you. last time i checked there was no age limit on purchasing condoms, and there should never be one. i mean h**l i have friends who still just steal them. i mean if pharmacies were smart and you said it was your first time, or your birthday they should give you a discount.

personally i have always had a problem with putting a politician's personal life into view. i can understand it to some degree when it become a matter of law, then rip them a new a*****e.  however this could potentially back fire on all people as a matter of how she will handle this. she is experiencing what all parents must face, a rebellious child. i dont think it yet makes her a bad mother that her daughter got pregnant. the most diligent and paranoid of parents can face of child doing something foolish no matter how careful and dedicated. this situation makes her human, and not rabid radical right wing as i have read some people calling her.

  7. Yes it's the parents job, but lets be realistic here, most parents will not teach their children properly about s*x education, as much as we would like them to, it's NOT going to happen anytime soon, so having it in school is necessary.

  8. parents or guardians should be the main person talking to their children about s*x, the school should only reinforce what they have already learned! it should start at home!

  9. i don't think that the pregnancy of palin's daughter is the government's fault. these things are a reality. you could be a great parent, and teach your kids all the values no pregnancy, or no s*x, but still, sometimes these things happen. you could give them all the information, but still, it is up to them to make that decision. the kids are no always held responsible, but they should be. except when it is not their decision (forced s*x, rape, etc)

  10. Some parents just aren't qualified to teach s*x education to their kids. In a school setting, kids have to listen. They can't leave and even if they don't pay attention they're almost certain to learn at least something. And kids don't want to learn about those things from their parents it's embarrassing for both parties. It's our responsibility as a society to make sure our kids are being educated properly. Abstinence only education is a disservice to the youth of America and only puts them at greater risk for STDs and unwanted/ unexpected pregnancies.

With parents having to work more and more these days sometimes at multiple jobs just to make ends meet, most don't have time to sit down and tell their kids about s*x and drugs, etc. And even if they could and did, parents don't know everything. Teachers have to be certified to teach those things. Who's going to hold parents accountable? What is the measure for accountability, if your daughter gets pregnant, if your son becomes a drug addict you fail and pay a fine or go to jail? That's just MORE government invasion into our PRIVATE lives. Why do Republicans say they want smaller, less invasive government, but then advocate the opposite like deciding who Americans can/ can't marry, if a woman can/ cannot make a choice about her body and her pregnancy on her own, or if a parent should be held accountable for teaching their kids about s*x and drugs, etc. That's just more, Big, INVASIVE Government we don't need.

Parents can teach their kids self respect and about the religious/ moral aspect of s*x and will hopefully instill the proper morals and values in their children. But please, leave the facts about STDs, pregnancy, and contraceptives and the teaching to qualified and certified teachers.

  11. I had s*x ed classes in 10th grade when I was 15/16. This was a great class and I learned a lot about myself as well as women. Do you think my dad was going to whip out photos and books to show me?? What a freaking joke.. You think a single dad is going to take out pictures and books to show his daughter? Do you really think most parents are competent enough to teach their children the facts?

You people that think abstinence only and that the parents should be responsible are totally out of touch with reality.

  12. I believe it should taught in schools.  It is very admirable that you plan to teach your child about s*x and drugs, but I believe that you are in the minority.  My opinion?  There should be a s*x ed class at about 7th grade, when kids hormones are kicking into overdrive, then again in the form of a Health class freshman or sophomore year of high school, when the majority of kids are thinking about having s*x for the first time.  Ultimately, is it the parents responsibility to teach your children about safe s*x?  Of course.  But to reinforce those teachings in school is a good idea, too.  Many high school kids will have s*x to spite there parents, as it is a very common age for rebellious actions on their part.

  13. I think parents should be responsible for instilling their morals around sexuality.  However, schools should be responsible for teaching the age-appropriate facts.  Teaching abstinence only does not (obviously) work.

  14. she is the SEXPERT   just ask Mc Magic, Mc Puff Puff the manchurian candidate

NOT everything improves with age.   get it- under age s*x, under age marriage, pre-marital s*x, unwanted child birth, pregnancy out of wed-lock

yeah, palins daughter is truly the SEXPERT and the FAMILY VALUES CHAMPION

  15. I think it's the parents job. But I guess there's a lot of retarded parents.

  16. It really doesn't matter who does it. Some kids will not listen.

At home would be much better.
