So sick of these airlines. Any airline employees out there?

I am just so sick of these airlines and their bait and switch BS.

Looking for some last min tickets to seattle, and these ripoff artists want 600.00.. Seriously I have looked at seat charts and the planes are half EMPTY.

Why do airlines do this?? The seats will remain empty at their ripoff prices.

No wonder they are all going bankrupt.

Soo onto my question. Is there a trick to getting good priced last min airfare? Or am I just screwed?

  1. Last min is always expensive, if you want cheap tickets, come early...

  2. alot of the fare structures are based off of certain "fare rules" generally the further out you buy the ticket the cheaper they are, you ahve some fares that offer the best prices, 7, 10, 14, or 21 days in advance. once you try to book last minute you get into the fares that are 3 days in advance and no days in advance. it gets really hard to understand and confusing after that. you get into the different cabins of service, most people don't know unless you work for an airline. that there are 10 different cabins for coach. it makes no difference where you sit, it's all about purchasing in advance. the good news though, is the fares that you buy closer to the time the flight the less restricted it is, so it may or maynot be refundable, and may or may not have a change penalty assosciated with it. another thing built into fare structures is the day's of the week and "blackout" dates. generally on busy weekends, fourth of july weekends, memorial day weekends, christmas, thanks giving, things like that the cheaper fares will be "blacked out" and you'll pay a higher fare. some fares are for weekend travel, some are for midweek travel, etc. the weekday travel is going to generally be less expensive. that's trying to explain it as simple as possible. airline fare structures can get very complicated.

  3. Last minute will always cost. But.......

Check the orbitz sites and such to get a feel for prices and what airlines fly into Seattle. Check the various sites from the airlines themselves. They are usually cheaper.

Sign up online for whatever frequent flyer card from whatever airline. You don't need the card itself just the number you get when signing up. The members area online might offer some sort of special.

Use the actual phone and call. About 7 out of ten times actually calling will get you a cheaper fare. It might take some serious on hold time but it it is often worth it to save a few hundred. Even if you have never flown with the airline the frequent flyer # will get you to an operator who is more willing to help.
