So the Gulf is bad for Florida surfing, but what about for beginners?

  1. That would be excellent for beginer surfers!  No dimwitted "wanna be pro" surfers beating you up...Just you and possably a couple of other learners.

I have the gulf to surf at (texas though) and yeah it's small and yeah you have to check surf reports before even going out, mainly because there are days where the gulf looks like a giant lake.... I have a 7'4 and it catches easy in the gulf. it's a quick board too. I love it. Anyways the waves in the gulf are good to learn on. If you get the chance to get into some good waves (visit cali, or whatever) it's a lot easier to get up because you were able to get on the smaller ones... the larger waves you have a little bit more time to react then on the gulf waves... once you master the gulf you are good to go. Enjoy, have fun and be safe.

  3. I would imagine it has sloppy, small, gentle waves, so I would say yes. Get  a longboard and get out there!
