You never hear on the news about crime happening on cruise ships(like murder, kidnapping, child crimes).

Does that mean it's safe on the cruise ship?

  1. The reason you never hear about those things is because the crimes occur on the cruise ship in the middle of the ocean. Cruise ships dole out *** loads of hush money to keep these things quiet. Check this out:

  2. nothing and nowhere is safe so we should all just hide in our houses right. a cruise is convienant and like all vacations you still need to be careful and who ever your with stick with that person no one is too old for the buddy system...

  3. First of all, it is very safe because every passengers is screened and has to present positive ID in order to get on the ship. No one gets on or off the ship without the ship knowing because they use a cruise card (issued when you first board) scanner system to track people getting on and off. Ship's security is ALWAYS at the doorway and they scan every person and packages must go through an x-ray scanner just like at the airport.  All baggages is also scanned.

All passengers must now submit their personal information (passport #, address, phone # , etc) weeks before the cruise and the ships do FBI and other checks on people going on cruises. So when your son boards the ship he will be in a secure community.

There have been incidents of people falling over board and/or disappearing on cruise ships. BUT, in all of those cases it was because the passengers were doing something stupid that they should not have been doing, like sitting on a deck or balcony railing, or the people wanted to commit suicide. And, the number of those incidents is very small considering the number of cruises taking place every day, something like I bet 1 in 50,000.

On the issue of illness the cruise lines take all measures possible to prevent the Norwalk virus that has made people ill.  Most ships have a couple bottle of hand sanitizer at the gangway when you first board the ship and a staff person telling everyone to use it. That have the same at each port stop. They have the same at all of the main restaurants on ships. And then you can add due diligence by simply carrying with you a small bottle of hand sanitizer or some handy wipes to use before you eat.

Cruises in my experience have been very safe and I have been on about 20 and have 3 booked for this year.

  4. Maybe I missed something, but I read the article OPM mentioned and it indicated there was very little crime on cruise ships which would seem to be exactly the opposite of what he is claiming. I've been on 5 cruises and have seen zero crime, while I'm sure there was some, as there is virtually everywhere on the planet it is safer than your average vacation.

  5. I love to cruise and even though there have been many scams on this....like wifes and girlfriends being "buried at sea"  which is the reason they TOOK the cruize  (an easy way to dump a spouse they wanted to loose...

I think for the most part...its safe , healthy and fun....You know what?? a criminal is a criminal is a criminal and they can and WILL get anywhere they want to get......it just happens!  But for the most part...cruises are very safe! :)  Ignore the horror stories...and i am ready for another one...you need a partner, TinkerToy? haha
