  1. YES!!!!!!!!! Because the surgery just fixes the cosmetic look of his eyes, not the underlying problem!!  He needs to have glasses with prisms in them, and possibly vision therapy where they help him with tracking, and converging.  PLEASE do not do the surgery.   There are BETTER ways to help him.  Google lazy eye treatments, the sooner you treat him the better the outcome will be.

  2. Wrong!!answerer above me. Having surgery to straighten the eyes before the eyes fully develop is not always just cosmetic. The eyes need to learn to work together before the eyes are fully developed so the visual pathway can learn to see together. Many kids do not have their vision corrected in time and they have one eye that is lazy or amblyopic. This eye never developped the vision that it should have and the person ends up with only one good eye. Getting the eyes to work together before the age of 8-10 is vital to the development of a childs best vision. If you are still uncomfortable about surgery, see a pediatric Ophthalmologist who can give you their professional opinion as to whether surgery is the best option or not.
