  1. I am applying right now and it is best to have a 2 or 4 year degree before applying, although if you have a lot of practical work and/or volunteer experience that is okay too.

It is amazing, but very hard work. 2 years in another country learning/speaking another language....try this group on yahoo:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/peacecorps...

It's great--great message board that you'll be sure to get answers on, there is also a Files section with things like interview questions (spot on), examples of medical forms, Unofficial* departure dates, discounts on items that peace corps volunteers will need.

Also, there is a site called www.peacecorpsjournals.com--you pick a region and then a country and it lists tons of blogs for each--current and past volunteers.

The official website, www.peacecorps.gov is great--def check out the media section too

there is also a "wikipedia" for peace corps... www.peacecorpswiki.org/

I'm glad your interested, it's a great thing to do and a great experience with lots of opportunity

  2. It's something you will have to work very hard for, as the selection process is highly competitive. And it's something you shouldn't apply for until after you get your Bachelor's degree.

Here is a web site that can help you learn more about the skills and experience desired by long-term placement organizations such as the PeaceCorps, and how you can start to gain such experience locally, wherever you are now. You are never too young nor too old to start engaging in activities and training that will make you a viable candidate for the PeaceCorps or other long-term volunteer placement agencies:

Also, go to Google and type in

    PeaceCorps blogs

You will find blogs by actual PeaceCorps members, and you can read about what their day-to-date life in the field is like.
