Question:

So there is a finite amount of crude oil?

I have heard estimates of between 25 to 50 years of oil left to be discovered. I've even heard as much as 150 years. At what point does NASCAR get banished to the streets? Think of how much gas they use in each race. Do you think it will survive until almost the end and beyond or do you think it will be banned in 10-15 years?

  1. I think about 50 years left.   But things are gonna start getting very uncomfortable for heavily oil consuming countries such as USA.

There are gonna be wars over the remaining oil.   Things are going to become very expensive.   Poverty is going to increase.   It is going to be an economic crisis for modern oil consuming countries.

Those who can get buy without it already or find a sufficient substitute are going to rule the world.

NASCAR is the least of everyone's worry's and i think it will cease to stop on oil in the next 15 years.   Countries will be using the oil to maintain a standard of life.   Not fill race cars.

  2. Well, yes.  Everything on this planet is finite.  Here's some truth about our oil reserves:

The U.S. is sitting on the world's largest, untapped oil reserves -- reservoirs which energy experts know exist, but which have not yet been tapped and may not be attainable with current technology. In fact, such untapped reserves are estimated at about 2.3 trillion barrels, nearly three times more than the reserves held by Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) nations and sufficient to meet 300 years of demand -- at today's levels -- for auto, truck, aircraft, heating and industrial fuel, without importing a single barrel of oil.

What's the problem then? Why aren't oil companies jumping to pump the black gold?

Contrary to what some conspiracy theorists would have you believe, there is no cabal of oil companies and foreign governments blocking the way, bottling up U.S. oil production. The reality is much more mundane. Those untapped reserves are located in places that either Uncle Sam has put off-limits for environmental reasons or are too costly to get -- or a combination of both.

  3. No need to ban it. Cars that run on alcohol are faster anyway.  They just need to switch fuels.

  4. hopefully we will have switched to a less antiquated energy supply by then so nascar will be the only thing running on oil for centuries to come.

maybe we will have electric nascar in 20 yrs too.

  5. i think nascar will be banned. and about the crude oil. crude oil is decayed plant matter that took over a million years to get that way. so obviously it will end soon at the rate we are using the oil today.

  6. well yeah, it took billions of years for the amount we have to accumulate. We are going to run out eventually. If we are lucky, NASCAR gets banned next year, but don't hold your breathe. NASCAR will probably pull some green **** to keep them going.

  7. I doubt NASCAR will ever be banned.  Consider all the gas wasted across the country idling in a single morning's rush hour traffic and NASCAR's use is a drop in the bucket.

  8. nascar should use the cars from the flintstones

  9. It is possible to create oil in a lab, although it would cost a great deal to do so. Therefor NASCAR could in theory continue on forever.

  10. think about it man...china and india have about 3 billion people.  Do you really think running a 30 or so races a year with 30 or so cars per race makes any difference at all.
