I'm visiting New York this week to meet some family members and I decided to visit and Yankee Stadium for the first time ever in Section 39. We all know they are the bleacher creatures. You know with that Bald Vinny guy and the Cowbell guy and so on. I'm a big Angels fan but since the Red Sox are coming to town I decided to pull out a Jonathan Papbelbon jersey out and wear one. So I'm going to be sitting in section 39 and yeah you know the whole story. They're going to harass me, flick me off, curse at me, do they're little role call, sing the you are g*y ymca version to me, and so on. Anything else should I expect any helpful tips? I'm just doing it because I want a Yankee Stadium experience.

  1. Hey, I'll probably see you there. If I recognize the Papelbon jersey, I MAY decide to give you a break. Yeah, I love getting BC seats, they really are the best Yankee fans. Yeah, they're probably going to sing YMCA, harass you, flick you off, curse at you, and do their little roll call, and so on. But it really helps to just laugh it off and maybe throw a little trash-talk in yourself. Don't overdo it, though, because I actually was there for quite a few BC incidents where the police had to be "summoned" to the scene. I have tickets in the bleachers for all 3 games (Section 39 for two of them). Is the Papelbon jersey road or home just in case I see you there?

Overall, it's not a particularly fun experience wearing a visiting team's jersey to Section 39, but just let whatever the Creatures say roll off your back. It should feel good to be the center of attention of a lot of passionate Yankee fans. Once I brought my neighbor (Mets fan) to a game there and he actually helped us with the roll call and enjoyed the "YRUG" song (which I usually don't sing, but I did have to taunt my neighbor :)).

It's good you get to visit Yankee Stadium before it closes. I'm gonna miss that place. And don't take what they say too seriously.
