both of my fathers parents were from there. Just wanted a little insite to what the area is like. I know a lot of people on this site dont' like the "I'm irish, 400 yrs ago one of my ancestors walked on your land" but maybe I have a little more credibility, lol since I'm just second generation american. :)

  1. And don't forget the people of Cork. I've never met a person from Cork that I haven't liked. Plus, their accent down there rocks!

  2. It's the largest county in Ireland, and also the most southerly.  The southwest of the county is beautiful and vey popular with tourists - lots of nice villages and towns, beaches and mountains.  It's known as the "rebel county", and the people of Cork city often refer to their city as "The People's Republic of Cork" or "the real capital of Ireland".

  3. Absolutely beautiful.  It's like being in a fairy tale. All of the people are friendly, the food is wonderful and traditional. Blackberries grow on the side of the road. The grocery stores are so small you can fit to inside one of our circle k's. it's so quiet...when you wake up in the morning...instead of hearing traffic...you hear the birds....Everything about it is simply amazing.

    I don't know if that's what you wanted...but there you go :)

  4. Ah, Cork, the real capital of Ireland (and don't let anyone tell you different!)

Cork's great, I've lived here all my life and never had a mind to move anywhere else.  Once you get used to the accent boy, you'll be grand, it has a musical lilt to it.  Sure, we'll welcome you with open arms and introduce you to the likes of the 'Red Rooster' on Red FM - a Cork treasure.

May your thoughts be as glad as shamrocks,

May your heart be as light as a song,

May each day bring you bright, happy hours

That stay with you all year long.

C'mon over, sure you'll have a ball! And you'll be more than welcome, no doubt you'll find someone that knew someone who was related to your great-grandfather's next-door -neighbours cousin!

    Happy St. Patrick's Day!
