  1. they'll take your weight, blood pressure, ask you if you're doing drugs and whatnot.  you pee in a cup for them.  then give you a few brochures about what you can and cannot eat, exercising methods, etc.  and that's about it.

  2. It depends on the practitioner, but more than likely you will get a complete physical, which includes PAP test, weight, blood pressure check and blood work (to test for communicable diseases). You will also have to pee in a cup for a complete urinalysis (to check for nitrates, protein, etc). You will go over your medical history, and in some cases get an ultrasound to date the pregnancy.

It's the longest appointment you will probably have, and its really not that bad :)

  3. A lot of talking and a PAP if you haven't had one recently.

    Good Luck

  4. Usually just a bunch of questions about your family history and the father's family history (illnesses, defects, drugs, alcohol, etc.) and blood work to check your hcg level as well as screen for your immunities or any other diseases.  They will give you information about eating, exercising, common FAQ's such as can I take tylenol or whatever, info on birthing classes...Don't expect an ultrasound unless you have already had the type of appointment I am describing.  Most doctor's don't order an ultrasound until they have a dated pregnancy of 8 weeks and healthy hcg to support a pregnancy.  Good luck and have a healthy nine months for you and baby.

  5. PAP smear and testing for STD's.  Congrats.

  6. I know a lot of doctors do it differently, but my first prenatal visit was really just a consultation. Basically I just talked with the doctor, gave a family medical history, discussed questions and concerns, and what to expect for my next visit. The second visit will be the one that involves the pap, exam, blood tests, etc. The most extensive testing they did on me this past visit was a urine collection, blood pressure, and weight.

Not all OBs do it this way so you might want to call and ask. It's always nice to be prepared if you are going to have a pap/internal exam done.

  7. at my first appointment I got a pap smear, blood drawn and i got to listen to my baby's heartbeat. Congrats!!!

  8. Not much. For me they took my weight, BP, gave me an internal exam (did a few swabs for STDs) but I did not have a PAP because I had just had one.

Then I was asked a ton of questions about my family history and my husband's family history.

I was written an order for a blood test and an ultrasound!

  9. Your doctor will ask you lots of questions about family medical history, your lifestyle, job, etc...  She will get you on prenatal vitamins if you haven't already started (no prescription needed).  Also, you should start folic acid immediately (it's recommended you take them even when trying to conceive).  Prenatal vitamins only have 1 mg but you need 5mg so you need to take them in addition to the prenatal.  You will have a urine test and be sent for bloodwork if they don't do it at the office to check for stds, hiv, etc...and for protein in your urine.  You will also have a pap smear.  It's not like a regular one though.  It's not as invasive (only takes about a minute).

  10. You can expect an ultrasound, to find out if the baby is growing nicely.  Maybe hear a heartbeat and bloodwork.  Congrats on the new little bundle of joy!
