they said the boss lady that owns petcos in 11 different states sent my application in to our store and told them to hire me. which is wierd lol. but great too! i dont remember what i put on that application to make me stand out. i havent had any experience in grooming or training.

but anywho, this is my dream job for the moment.. what can i expect in this proffession?

(this will be definitly be better than renting out cars all day!)

  1. Here's what I'd expect, having both worked for a groomer as a teenager, and taught obedience classes for a big box pet store.

You will be the bather/brusher in the grooming salon -- you will prep the dogs for the groomers by brushing them out, clipping toenails, and bathing/drying them.

Depending on how long you stay, they may train you to do some of the easier clips, or trim paws, etc.

You will read a large manual on how to sell and teach dog training classes. You will observe some classes being taught, and follow another trainer around so you can learn how to sell classes.

The manual will have some rudimentary dog behavior information, and all of the training will be positive. You will learn how to sell head collars and treats to your students.

Note that this is no substitute for actually learning how to train dogs, but PetCo will try to pass it off that way.

    Good luck!

  2. Hmm...I hope scale grooming will be offered.  I need one badly.

Aigh, I have started a post-bacc in history.   Congrats on yopur dream job.

  3. You will groom dogs and train dogs in the training classes.

If I got hired for a grooming position I would think that's what it would be.
