I've heard that a) NYU gives very little financial aid and b) that if you apply for financial aid, your chances of being accepted decrease. Is this really true? Thanks!

  1. Qualifying for federal financial aid has nothing to do with which school you attend.  And anyone can get fin aid regardless of income in the form of federal student loans.  Also be aware that most schools admissions office and financial aid offices are totally separate and don't even talk to each other.

What might be fueling these rumors is that the federal grant and loan amounts are the same regardless of the cost of the school... so if NYU is very expensive... and I assume it is, the aid offered would not seem like much.  At least compared to a cheaper school.

I would ignore these rumors and apply where ever you want.  Always pick at least 4 schools.

  2. me nt much aware .

  3. I am a current NYU MBA student.  The president just sent out an email saying that almost ALL MERIT based financial add is going away.  Guess they want poor average students to go there since middle income smart kids can't afford it.
