  1. We will use a mix. Biofuels like ethanol and biodiesel are already here. Hydrogen and electric are coming up soon. In the future, individuals will use hybrids, ethanol and biodiesel. Fleets like buses, taxis, police, fire departments, couriers and so on will use fuels like hydrogen and electric. Hydrogen is harder to refuel because it requires high pressure and an airtight seal. Electric takes a while to recharge. Those traits lend them more to the fleet application. Ethanol and biodiesel act a lot like their fossil fuel counterparts, so they are great for individuals.

  2. Get ready, get set, GO. Everything has a starting point and the longest journey begins with the first step. Dead end road with the gasoline engine - next? Seems something that we could move into immediately would be Flex Fuel Hybrides to burn any amount of ethanol up to E85 and still get the use out of the Hybride technology. Ethanol does not need to be made from corn as much as it is in the US -  cellulose would be better, use switch grasses, wood waste - (lots of that in Canada) and other materials. They also have a process to make Biodiesel  from the waste products of making Ethanol - sort of a waste not want not  thing. Also biodiesel from algae.

  3. A bicycle or if need be a bus for transporting large amounts of people.

  4. I have 2 cars that run on methane (natural gas), and they were made by Ford in 1999 and 2000. The technology already exists, but not every state has places to refuel them, plus not a lot of them were made. They stopped making them in 2004, but hopefully will start up again now that gasoline has gone up so much. They run cleaner than regular gasoline-powered cars and natural gas is cheaper than gasoline (64 cents/gallon in Utah). I love them and hope that someday a lot more people have them.

  5. Surely biofuels...

    They are largely sustainable:

one eighth of Brazil = 100 million hectares  --> around 500 million tonnes of bioethanol.

one fourth of Mozambique  = 20 million hectares --> around 100 million tonnes of bioethanol...

    Etc...

  6. Have you seen the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? They made an electric car, called the EV1. General Motors(GM) was backing them. Then they actually made it.

GM pulled out and took all the EV1s back.

Corporations don't want this to happen.

Electrical car would be the best, though not sure if it'll be the first.
