On tv, I've seen shows about "magic" (like in Haiti) and they have pictures of Jesus on the wall. I'm just trying to understand how to tell the difference. I don't want my prayers to be the wrong kind.(And what could I do about "bad" prayers people might pray on me?)

  1. Both are ancient superstitious attempts to persuade a probably nonexistent Deity or Powers to grant wishes. Neither work, although prayer can have very positive effects on the individual due to the Relaxation Response. People who pray do seem to live longer because of that effect. Relaxation response benefits are common to nearly any religion.

  2. Continue praying in JESUS' name! He is the Prince of Peace, the Undefeated Champion of all-time. He is our KING and DELIVERER! Just because people have pictures of Jesus on their wall doesn't mean they serve HIM. Some people even judge others, kill others, and do terrible things in God's name. But that is not God's plan, I don't think. God does NOT want us to hurt others. He loves us, all of us, even those He is hoping will change their lives and try to follow Him.

We must love others and do unto others as we would like them to do to us. Keep reading your Bible (especially the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), and you will see the life that Jesus lived and what He calls us to do also. He calls us to follow Him (and I think that even means we should be following the same day that He worshipped upon, the Sabbath, which is God's blessing built in time). The Sabbath is Saturday, or the 7th (7 is a perfect number) day of the week. We need to keep the Sabbath holy, and blessings abound for those of us who do.

Do not even worry about other people wishing you harm. Even if they pray against you, your faith will be strong by trusting in God! Ask Him to give you strength and faith. He will always keep His promises. The Bible is filled with God's promises for his children.

God will protect you with Guardian Angels, unseen guests who serve the MOST HIGH GOD IN HEAVEN! Our Father God in Heaven. God's perfect love casts out all fear. Also, the devil and his workers cannot defeat GOD! Jesus Christ already won the victory for us by dying for our sins on Calvary's Cross. We can pray daily and ask forgiveness from God in prayer. We can pray to Jesus, the Holy Spirit and to Our Father in Heaven!

God bless you as you continue to seek His will for your life. The christian life does not get any easier, but it is DEFINITELY BETTER!!! Keep walking with God with daily prayer, reading in the Holy Bible, and communicating often with other believers. With God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

  3. The Christian Church(and Catholic)  have  Christians, Black, and White magic people as members. Christians pray to one God with a capital G. Do not try to understand it but This one God consists of the Father, Son,and Holy Spirit.

White magic people pray to many gods, including the sun, moon, earth, wind, fire, jesus, etc. They do not include evil spirits or the devil.

Black magic people pray to the Christian god, white magic gods and evil spirits and the devil.

You have the right in our country to decide who you pray to.

It is good you are thinking about it because it is an important decision.

  4. I would say theres very little difference.

they are both focusing thought on a desire.

  5. Assuming you are a Christian, praying to one god.Wouldn't god tell the difference between good and bad prayers? Are bad prayers answered by the Christian God?How could your prayers be the wrong kind?I'll admit I'm out of practice.I do understand Catholic teaching though.Priests and Nuns in my day, scoffed at magic. In fact as I remember it was sinful to even think about trying it.

  6. Dear Denie,

There is no wrong way to pray. There is absolutely nothing to fear in God. There is essentially no difference in any of the world's religions. They are all seeking the same, the one and only God (I only use the word God as a conceptual starting point for you; there are as many names for God as there are people. Whatever works for you is just as valid. My own personal reference to God is The Is) If you are truly seeking God, you will eventually realize that God is, and always was, within you. I know that that same statement has been made so many times in so many ways as to become a bit watered down in it's conceptual meaning to others, but please trust me when I tell you that when you eventually become enlightened to The Truth, you will realize not only that God was always with you, but also how, and your true relationship with the world and the universe at large. Jesus was the messenger for Christianity, Budda was the messenger for Buddism, and Mohammed was the messenger for Islam (and there have been many other messengers who knew the same thing, hence the birth of many smaller or lesser known "religions". Some messengers were never heard at all.) They were all here with the same message (and that message was essentially that our most important task in this life is to find our way to God, or, more specifically, since we are never trully apart from God, to recognize your true spiritual nature within), but that message has undergone so many translations and corruptions over the centuries as to be virtually unrecognizable; by people who do not know The Truth, by people who think that real power is control over either people or their external circumstances.

I'm sorry if maybe I strayed a little (or alot :-), off of your original question, which was so beautiful and innocent that I couldn't help but respond. I just wanted to help you before someone else comes along and tries to instill fear in whatever practice you choose to seek God. Fear is not only an unnecessary element in your spiritual pursuit, but a great hindrance as well. As for your last question, a simple but steadfast faith in God is all you need to ward off any negativity that anyone might be "praying" toward you. In truth, there is no "bad prayer", because anyone wishing you any ill will is not sufficiently grounded in The Truth as to be effective. Anyone who has ever seen The Truth for themselves only wants to love everyone and everything.

  7. magic is about the intention, black or dark magic is just as it sounds, people having malicious intentions. one creed in pagan life is "do what you will and may it harm none"

one of the many misconceptions in modern religion is that you cant dabble in a positive way with "magic" and still believe in Christ.

  8. Christian................black magic..........

which of the two have the name CHRIST.

power is only found in Jesus Christ our Lord through faith.

black magic is witchcraft, and no goodness comes from it....

the bible said......." don't handle nor seek the things of evil.....fee from it".

personally i have found that prayer through faith has  a peace of mind that surpasses the understanding of humans.......

  9. Wow.  Hardly racists at all.  I'm so glad I'm not a christian  some times.

  10. this ones easy. the people there in Haiti were superstitious because of their African background. the Spanish had their Catholic religions there in the west Indies. The Haitian people married both voodoo and catholic beliefs to form a morphedite religion. My source, my mother being a missionary in haiti since 1982. The People there go to their witch doctors and pray to their voodoo gods for medical help, when it does not happen then they come to the christian missionaries for medical aid. The catholic religion has been married in many cultures with the native beliefs. Brazil, and Mexico are two great examples. Pray to your savior, the one and only true God and there can be no "bad" prayers.
