Question:

So what is the solution in Iraq?

I see so many topics on YA stating that the Bush Administration did this wrong, that wrong, all of these things wrong, it is endless. Not even pointing out the things this administration did right, I just want to know of a better strategy in Iraq. This question is a chance for you to validate your complaints.

Is there a better solution to bring about a stable government in Iraq that our administration is not currently doing? I don't think early withdrawl is the best solution since it will leave the young Iraqi government without strong support, and they will be quickly overthrown and replaced with yet another anti U.S. government.

What are your solutions? Please provide reasons on why you believe your solution to be the best solution. This is not a forum to continue slander of our nations leader so don't. What I would like to see is positive moves that this administration or the next can begin to transition into place.

  1. Leave and allow them to kill each other if they want.

It is none of our business if they want to live like savages. Respect their wishes..I say...

  2. I'm so sorry to see the Iraqi state in the bad condition . The whole world warned  against such a situation but the American foolishness and greed spoke louder than the voice of mind.  Now the situation is getting worse and worse .I think the solution is to take the less bitter medicine , i,e to give the chance to an international  conference in which all the sides  get together . In this conference I  think that US shouldn't be invited. Also the international  powers : Europe, the Islamic Conference and the Arab League and the Major Iraqi parties should replace the foolish American forces.

  3. Tax breaks for the rich! Solves everything.

  4. 2008 = Bush Out of Iraq

2008 = Iraq Become Free once again

  5. i think... what they are doing is the only way, continue transition of regions from US to Iraqi forces. yes it's going slow but it is going. We have a tough enemy, all the more reason to show the world how tough we are by beating it.

  6. Personally I liked the ideas put forth in the law that was passed by the house and then the senate, working out a schedule ro get us out of Iraq on a timetable.  It was a logical timetable giving us a start and an end time.  Working to get our men out of there on a schedule and to start working to get te Iraqui people ready for taking over their own country.  However the plan was vetoed by Bush as it had an end date to it that we were supposed to stick to and he didn't like it.  It took the war away from him.

  7. I agree with Alowishus

  8. Federation - three states, one Iraq.

Only a political solution is viable.

  9. Yes and It is this:

    1) Build a time machine and go back to 2003 and implement the strategies of the Iraq study group and avoid 4 wasted years.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Study_...

Since that is not possible, the Iraqi government is ineffective (and now on vacation!), the country's best and brightest have all fled, and there is a civil war on the streets of Baghdad We can only pick the least bad option...which is...

Withdraw combat troops by next year keeping a smaller but still formidable troop force in Iraq (20,000 or so) to do this:

    1) Secure the borders and prevent the civil war from spilling over

    2) battle Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups

    3) prevent genocide

Also U.S. diplomats should increase diplomatic talks with neighbors like Syria and Iran. As far as the underlying point of your question, unfortunately I don't believe that we can do much at the moment about creating a stable government. This may be possible down the road but right now the Iraqis have other conflicting interests ...safety of their family/tribe, finding work, not getting blown up, etc.

To paraphrase a quote from Thomas Friedman:

'Democracy may be our first choice for the Iraqis, but it is their second or third choice'

  10. Mr John J ,

This  is a very hard question, one you don't want our opinion on Bush or any negative responses ,, how can one answer , except for a politician, !

OK lets start with the reason for this war  9-11 ,, and OIL ,

Lets get back to the basics John,, You really don't want to know ? because you set the rules before you want to know how to solve this problem,,

So I will be as nice as I can ,, Keep our Constitutional Rights , keep prayer in school , and Honor our American Flag. """"Keep MADE IN U.S.A,"""" and get it back , And seek the truth from our elected officials & inpeach President  Bush  and have a trial,,

And prosacute the ones responsible for 9-11

Need to go back to the old basics ,,

And if anyone does not like  living here in the Good U,S,A, GET the h**l out ,period,

  11. Most of us have no perspective on war and how it's done.  If you look back at previous wars, there were so many mistakes made that if we'd just given up back then we'd be ruled by racist savages today.

I think the surge is working.  It would be nice if all our politicians would be supportive of the war and our military, but many are more concerned with getting votes than with stabilizing potentially dangerous areas of the world.  Perhaps they don't have the fore-sight needed to understand how important a win in Iraq is, but putting political needs above the security of our country is wrong and very dangerous.

  12. Widen the war under the great leadership of our President Bush to Iran and Syria and here at home to defeat Liberalism.

  13. Kill anyone not American or confirmed friend.

  15. So exactly which things were right about invading the soveriegn nation of Iraq?

  16. The solution is to invent a time machine, go back to before the war started, and don't start it.

Or use the time machine to go back to when Saddam fell from power, not disband the Iraqi army and allow former Baathists to continue running the country as it transitions to democracy.

Sadly, those things won't happen.  I think you're right, we can't abondon everything now, too much is as stake.  Our military is trying the surge, but it's too soon to give it a thumbs up or down.  They are also trying to work with insurgents that are fed up with AQI, maybe that strategy will pan out.  It's easy to say leaving will end the war (which it won't) or that they've been fighting for years and won't stop (which is true) but that dodges the issue of finding solutions.

Engaging Iran and Syria diplomatically needs to be a part of the process as well, something else the time machine could come in handy for....

  17. In Iraq people need stability on first place!

  18. If it were just a matter of the Bush administration doing some things wrong in the beginning, and giving us a theoretical clean slate to start with today I might be able to come up with something.  The fact is that the Bush administration is continuing to push us in the wrong direction as we speak.  Tough to find a way out of the mud hole when we're not sure how much farther the current driver is going to take us into it.  If the goal of the Bush administration had ever been any of those stated...IE to bring peace, democracy and freedom to the Middle East I would think the whole operation would have been handled very differently.  Since the mission in Iraq was really about securing the oil reserves for the U.S. oil companies, keeping them from other countries like Russia and China, making money for Halliburton, increasing the recruitment for Al-Qaeda and other terrorist group to give the U.S. an opponent to take the place of the collapsed Soviet Union and justify the D.O.D.s astronomical defense budget, and "the decider" is still in charge any ideas we might come up with would be moot.  As far as the U.S. helping Iraq form a stable government free of corruption..."How can we take a speck of sawdust from our brother's eye...etc?"

  19. pray for them

require them to develop their own defense

come home and protect our mother country from wacko terrorists

  20. well lets start with if we had not GONE there in the first place.

Its real easy to say "set up a democratic government there"

If u knew anything (like some c**p u would EXPECT our government to have known before this mess) You would have known that the sunnies and the shites were not going to work together in the first place when it came to government (I'm not saying that there are not some that are unwilling to work together but the majority don't want to).

No i dont think that just up and leaving while they are blowing EACH OTHER up is a great idea. But what solution do we have?????

There is none. No 1 was here to play negotiator to us during the civil war right ??? Every government has its infancy and its growing pains and we are just loosing money and lives....end of scenrio
