So what should I do when wanting to go to mayan riviera or cancun ? Pro and cons please and what to do there?

Planning a trip on short notice so please any info, experiance will help and Id be so appreciative

riviera maya is more spread out , like big hotel resorts with huge properties.  cancun is really nice too , has more hotels closer together.  the grounds can be large , but nothing like riviera.  less shopping / restaurants in riveria.  cancun is much busier has more of a mix.  riviera has a lot of honey mooners, couples.  the taxi rides can be expensive back / forth. figure out what you want to to do there / what is important to you and then decide where to stay.

The only topless European I saw in the Mayan area was a really old lady and her nude male partner. I still can't get the vision out of my head! My son need therapy after this event.

Really, Cancun is party, party, party..... Not just teenagers, but up to 30ish. Not as much culture as The Mayan. I think the beach is whiter and nicer.

The Mayan is really spread out with HUGE properties. More for couples and families and there is alot of culture starting out at Playa De Carmen all the way down to the Tulum Ruins.(the ruins are on the coast and are simpling breath taking)

Both are good, but my choice is The Mayan.

Depends on what you want. I lived in playa del carmen (maya riviera) and my view is kind of biased, so take it as it is...

Cancun: more teenagers, parties and hard drinking.

Playa: more electronic music, lounges, window shopping, coffee drinking kind of adult pastimes.

Cancun: passing out drunk naked.

Playa: topless european sunbathing with a margarita on your hand.

Cancun: Hard Rock Cafe

Playa: Mamitas beach and Salsa dancing.

It is kind the Hollywood vs. Independent Film debate.

Either way, it is the Caribbean and it is beautiful.
