i recently asked about moving to an area thats safe and has decent nightlife, i had heard about Buckhead (and i do appreciate the great feedback from all the posts...thanks everyone), but after further digging around...i've been hearing that its 1) NOT SAFE and 2) not a popular nightlife spot anymore. Anyone have feedback on this...FYI i'm not from Georgia, but will be moving in a few weeks...thx for the input

  1. I'm not going to act like Buckhead is the nicest safest neighborhood ever, but basically, you won't find a safer neighborhood in Atlanta. That's just the city. Midtown certainly isn't safer, nor is the Highlands. I've only lived here a year and for each of those 3 neighborhoods, I personally know at least one person who's had their car broken into there. You just have to watch out - be street smart and don't leave anything of value in your car.

The other thing I would point out is, Midtown, Buckhead (the more youthful less mansiony parts of it) and the Highlands are all pretty close together.

  2. You should check out Decatur.  It has a great downtown area with tons of restaurants to choose from and a great night life.  Now there are some parts of Decatur that are a terrible place to live, but the closer you get to Emory the better.  I am moving there next year and have been checking it out often.  Check out the University Heights subdivision and around there.

  3. Parts of Buckhead are safe and are very pricey.... and it isn't a popular nightlife spot anymore. Most of the bars have been knocked down to make room for higher end retail and housing.  If you want nightlife look at Atlantic Station which is new, was built in the last few years, they have apartments & condos in the area.  Also the Virginia Highlands has houses, etc. and a nightlife because of its proximity to Emory Univ.

  4. buckhead used to be a great destination spot, haven't been there in about 6 years now though, I do know that when I lived there it was relatively safe, but fridays and saturdays did get a bit dicey because of the bars.

you may want to try midtown and the highlands, but again as you get closer to the city and the bars the more likely you are to see an increase in crimes like theft, drunk and disorderly etc.
