and what will be going through the heads of those oil companies if people were to start buying nothing but those electric or solar-powered cars with gas already so high and it going even higher. Whatever they'd be thinking, they'd have to realize they brought it on themselves and they were asking for it...

  1. They won't.  Nuclear batteries is the way to go.

  2. We'll have to wait a while to see their reaction, because all those solar and electric-powered cars you speak of do not exist.  There aren't any solar-powered cars at all, and there are no real designs for anything of the sort.  Electric cars have been made on and off for about a hundred years now, but there are no street-legal electric automobiles currently in production anywhere in the world.  Their various websites give availability dates around 15 months (that's what Tesla promises) but they're all a bit vague about it.

This is about the ninth answer of this sort that I've typed out this afternoon: when people get stressed they tend to believe in almost anything.

  3. Dana has a good answer, but it looks like a lot of those cars are awfully futuristic looking.   They have room for one, maybe two people to fit in them, and if you go to the store, I don't know where you're going to put your bags!

If you want a REAL electric car with 4 wheels and enough room for 4 adults, GM is coming out with the Chevy Volt in 2010 (hopefully).  It's a plug in electric hybrid, meaning you plug it into an electrical outlet to charge over night, and you can drive about 40 miles without using any gas before the gasoline motor kicks in.

If a lot of people start buying these in the US, I'm betting that other developing countries are still going to be mainly driving gasoline powered vehicles, so the oil companies can just start selling more oil to them.  The price of oil will come down quite a bit, however, due to the reduced demand from the US.

  4. The Green Vehicles Triac is going to be the first affordable highway speed EV available in July.

And of course the Tesla Roaster is already available if you've got a spare $98k lying around.

  5. as soon as the oil companys go broke  They $40 billion profit last year   what do you think??  maybe next week  I'm sure

  6. The oil companies have caused our shortage of oil by selling that oil to us at too low prices for too long.

Raising the price of fuel is done by consumers. We bid up the price when we go to the pump and pay what is being asked. The oil companies certainly do not turn away higher prices. But when there is not enough fuel at present prices, we have no mechanism but price they can use to persuade us to use less fuel.

Again, we consumers have not supported the changes to electric vehicles. So we should know who to blame for that. And, perhaps more use of public transit may have been the solution for a lot of people.

  7. When the oil company lobbiests lose their grip on the American government.
