I am assuming you mean on busy country roads with no sidewalk and then you always walk against the traffic. t has to do with visibility and view ability for you and the cars. For example when you walk in a bend, if you would walk with the traffic a car couldn't see you in the bend and the chances of an accident are bigger. If you are against you have a better view of what is coming towards you.

You are suppose to be walking on sidewalk.
