Well i just got back from Gander Mnt. and D icks Sporting Goods and bought a new jacket. My old one , the zipper broke so i was screwed. I am super excited for this hunting season. Last year i shot at a 6 point and thought i hit it, found blood and hair, but couldnt pick up a distinctive trail so i couldnt find him. I was upset, seeing as this was my first deer that i got a good shot at in 2 years. Anyways just wondering who is preparing or excited to whitetail deer or any deer hunting. I am in Michigan so i am hunting whitetail and cant wait for deer camp. I cant wait for the rush of a deer and trembling fingers as i pull the trigger, and hoping not to miss!! I am the only girl at deer camp, and by some people, that is wrong, but i love it. All my friends and family (girls) go shopping and get mani/pedi's but i LOVE LOVE hunting!! you? any girls out there hunting? sorry for rambling im just so excited for NOVEMBER 15th!!! 6:00am!!! you?

  1. right here. im using my old camo stuff and i like my 30-30 but my Henry .44mag knocks em down better.

  2. I was at the range Saturday sighting in my .30-06. I restocked it this spring. It's shooting into an inch or so at 100 yards. I need to shoot it more before the season starts, though. I mostly shoot .22 centerfires. I think it will work. Got a Pronghorn tag to fill September 20th. I shoot a Winchester 70. A push feed model.

  3. That is so awesome for you! I am just starting my 'career' lol, in shooting! I cant say I have the stomach to go hunting, I'm in it for targets only, I think its fantastic you have found something you love and enjoy, all the best for your season! Have fun! :)

  4. G'day. I'm going pig hunting in QLD, Australia. I use a Remington Pump Action .308.

  5. That is great that you are hunting.

Any good hunter is never "getting ready" for hunting season.  A real hunter is always ready, because there is something to hunt all year long.(HAA HAA)

Also, if I may give a piece of advice, I believe I know the reason you wounded your 6 point buck.  You stated you cannot wait to have trembling fingers when you pull the trigger.  Your fingers shouldn't be trembling when you are shooting because that will prevent accuracy.  It is OK to feel the rush of adrenaline; if you stop feeling it then stop hunting, because there is no more enjoyment left.  You need to learn to control that feeling through breathing and thinking about the shot and where you want the bullet to hit.  You will find that you can calm down once you recognize what is happening.  Once you are calmed down, only then do you slooooowwwly squeeze the trigger.  When the gun fires it should be a surprise to you.  This is something every hunter goes through when they are at the beginning of their hunting careers.

Also, you may want to study up on tracking deer.  Just because the deer did not leave a giant blood trail, they can still be located.  One technique is to follow the route you saw him take after the shot.  Put yourself in the deer's place and think about where you would go.  Deer will generally take the path of least resistance when they are running away.  Then they tend to seek out heavy cover and water before they bed down, after being shot.  Another thing you could do is start walking in circles (or half circles if there was no chance the deer got back around you) at the last place you found blood.  You start small and begin to make bigger circles as you move out.  Lastly, you should get down as close to the ground as you can and search for blood; you made be surprised how easy is it to find pinhead drops of blood or small pieces of hair.  Also look for a path of overturned leaves or scuffed ground as you are doing this.

    Good luck this year.

  6. We are waiting for the first frost before we do anything and since I live in AZ, that may take a while.

Were mostly hunting small to medium game.I'd go deer hunting but I don't know if my mosin would be able to cleanly kill a deer as it's old and it's accuracy... It will hit it I know that, I'm good with it, but I don't know if the round will be placed well enough to kill it in one shot. I don't have a legitimate rifle for larger game.

I also don't have a big freezer to keep one in either.

  7. i cant wait to get my boots dirty again! i also hunt white tail with a 30-30.
