Simplify.

1. 2m(-1/3n) = 3m(-2n)

2. 1.2(3x = y) - 0.8(22x - 2y)

Summer has been to long and loving and now my brain has dissolved to that of a pine cone. If you want me to not just know the answers but learn how you did them I would be happy to see you show your work. As stated above.. I'll be your best friend ;)

  1. ok first what are we simplifying the left and the right?

are we seeign if the left and right are actually equal?

cos it doesnt make sense otherwise and am confused about the brackets

    -2mn/3 = -6mn not true

    2(3x - y) - 0.8(22x - 2y)

    6x-2y - 0.8*22x + 0.8*2y

    6x-2y-17.6x +1.6y

    combining like terms together

    -11.6x - 0.4y

  2. I'm assuming you mean (-1/3)n, not (-1/3n):

    1) = 2m(-1/3)n + 3m(-2n)

    = (-2/3)mn - 6mn

    = (-20/3)mn

You "=" is a "+" here too, right?:

    2) = 1.2(3x + y) - 0.8(22x - 2y)

    = 3.6x + 1.2y - 17.6x + 1.6y

    = -14x + 2.8y

    I hope that helped.
