Question:

So you're trained to take a life if necessary... Could you?

So your martial art has taught it all... Chokes, neck breaks, secret death touches (I'm joking here). You can grind them up and spit them out with the best of them.

What about after?

I'm not talking about prison time or crazy vengeful friends and relatives of the guy you killed. Could you sleep at night? Or would you wake up at night in a cold sweat, still seeing that vacant look in their eyes? How would you see yourself? Would you be different or still feel the same?

What do you think?

  1. h**l yes.  If someone was trying to kill me or someone I loved, I would have no problem using lethal force.  And I would sleep better knowing they were no longer a threat.

I might suffer from some level of PTSD, but I think that would be from the stress of their attack, not from any guilt over killing someone in self defense.

  2. There are many ways around taking anothers life, i would never kill, using either the sword or my martial arts, there is always another path, even if its an uncut one.

  3. I was in the military in combat and have no problems sleeping at night over lives I've taken.  But the again, they were trying to do the same to me so that's OK.

Would I do it again?  If I am out of options and it's kill or be killed (or see someone else killed), in a heartbeat.  Would I break out in cold sweats?  Probably not.  I'd be confident that I did all I could to prevent having to go that far and the actions of the other person eventually dictated his fate.

The Rand Study, BTW, doesn't link the PTSD to killing others who are trying to kill you.  That kind of stress also comes from the day to day attempts on your life, seeing dead innocents, etc.

  4. No,I took MMA because I wanted to Learn to fight,MMA could kill,(with Punches,or Choke them with submissions) I wouldnt take a life,I couldnt sleep at night tbh. Not to mention, you would be serving time.

  5. Yes I could do it.

And if in a self defence with no other option I would feel justified, although I'm sure my conscious would haunt me regardless as two if not more lives would be ruined as a result regrettably.

    Best wishes :)***

  6. yeah ive read that book too. my biggest worry would be the legal circus afterwards. guilt-not so much. label me a 2%'er

  7. I don't think i could kill someone, hurt yes but not kill.

  8. If I had to take a life for self-defense, or to save someone else, I would have no problem with it, I would sleep good.

Now, if you let that person harm someone and you did nothing, then you would be bothered by it the rest of your life, knowing you could have done something.

  9. I think taking a life would all depend on your lifestyle. If your a happy go lucky, smiles at everything not a care in the world. Taking a life would eat you alive from the inside out. Now... If your living in a hellish life, your parents doing drugs beating each other every night. You getting in fights with people all the time. Living in a ghetto area. It would be like nothing. At least thats what i think. I would probably be able to take a life in some circumstances. Some of the toughest army men have nightmares when they leave a war because they killed people. It all deoends on your lifestyle. Are you seeing it all the time? Are you doing it for the first time? Those are the 2 factors.

  10. We would always change, that never going to disappear.

In my circumstance, I will only kill if there's no other way out.  I will weigh all the options, if there's time. If there's no time then obviously it was a necessity and that person had to go. I could live with myself.

  11. If I were trained I'm sure they prepare you for all the thoughts that go  thru your mind afterwards. But if it came right down to it and it was between kill or be killed, yeah i'm sure i'd do it.

  12. everybody dies someday
