Soap and Water for a Brush Cleaner?

Can I use Soap and Water to clean my make up brushes?

i use shampoo and water for mine to get all the greese out and it works fine ( and is cheap)

I use bath & body works moisturizing antibacterial with water on mine and I have never had any problems. I really don't want to spent like $10-20 on a little bottle of brush cleaner! I've heard other people saying they do too and it's just fine.

You can use soap and water, but if you are concerned because your brushes are made from real hair or something, then I would recommend shampoo and water.
