Soap in the mouth for child cursing?

My son will not stop cursing and having a aditude. He just turned 5.I have tried talking to him about it and time out when talking didn't work.If I ask him about what will happen to him when he does wrong. He looks at me and says i don't know.When he does.I remember that my mom put soap in my mouth for being mouthy.And I never done it again. I cried but I didnt talk back. Is that aloud now a days? Have any of you done it?I am not sure what else to do....

No I think personaly since my parents tried soap and spanking when I was little it honestly had the oppsite effect, to this day I still don't know why cursing is taken so seriously by parents. Our society is full of it so why are we punishing kids for a learned and repeated behavior and how many parents have never cursed around their kids, it seems to me once you have you have lost your credibility but that's just my opinion

Give his mouth a good wash with soap..infront of all his friends then watch as his face goes as red as a tomato!..worked with all mine. If not tobasco is a good option.

Don't use soap. It is lye. It is poisonous. It will cause illness. And they will hate you when they are older. It's psychological. Don't give them attention and talk to them like adults. They do it for the attention. Just ignore them and show them that it is a matter of respect. If you show them disrrespect, and that by cussing, they are showing disrespect to others, they will make the connection if they are smart. Kids react better to adult logic, than childish torture. There's little logical connection and it's cruel. Try the adult method.
