Soap molds.?

Question

I am getting ready to make soap for the first time. I am wanting to use muffin pans for molds. Can I use the paper cupcake liners in them, to make them come out easier. Will the soap stick to the paper? What about reusing the pans for baking later?

I wouldn't use a metal muffin pan for molds, especially if it's cold process soap as you CANNOT use metal with this type of soap making because of the lye.  Not only will it eat up your pan, it will discolor the soap.  Melt and pour might be okay, but don't chance it.  Use silicone, plastic, glass, etc.  

If you use melt and pour base, you can reuse your mold.  If making cold process, you cannot reuse it except for more soap making, you can't use it in your kitchen, again because of the lye.  The soaponification process causes the mixture to get so hot it can embed into your molds.

If using melt and pour, use a candy mold, cut the bottom off of a 16 or 20 oz. soda bottle and use it (they make cute flower shape bars of soap), small size gladware containers, a paper drinking cup that's coated with wax, anything like this.  You can even use an ice cube tray if you want.

Don't use your muffin liners, you'll have a mess on your hands.  The soap will definately stick!!

hi, I'm assuming you are making soap using the melt and pour process. But either way, muffin pans will work just fine, you could use the flexible rubber ones too as once hardened the soaps should pop out easily, if they don't just pop in the freezer a few minutes. I wouldn't  use paper muffin cups as soap and paper will most likely stick together. You can use any kind of jello or candy mold for soap making, and they are safe for foods if thoroughly washed in warm water, after all you do wash your dishes with soap :)  Basically all your doing is melting the soap down and recasting  it into a different shape

You can reuse certain soap molds - i use pvc pipe and wood molds for Cold Process soapmaking - i wash and re-line with butcher paper. I've also reused plastic candy, jello, soap molds when making melt and pour soaps.
