I am 18 I weigh about 195 to 200 mostly muscle......I have never been a treadmill type person but since I haven't had Football practice in such along time I've been going to the Gym at night. But when I'm on the treadmill after proper stretching while I'm running (the speed meter says "7.00") my ankles began to have a sore type pain along the front(I think you call that a shin not sure) and I can block out the pain for quite awhile but it gets unbearable and I have to stop after 25 minutes even though I'm not really tired......

Do any of you experienced treadmill runners know if this is normal at first will my ankles become stronger over time????

Am I not running properly???

Is there any exercise I can do to strength my ankles/shin???

Should I purchase any type of ankle support????

PLEAZE HELP!!!!!!

  1. em.. unless u have an injury it should be fine so i would say its a problem with the way you run

if its an injury i would consult a doctor or somethin

the exercises are basic, lift one foot up and move it around in circles then change to the opposite way then  switch feet and repeat. and then u could lift one foot up and point it down then up repeat with other foot

    see ye

and one last thing make sure u are wearing good sneakers not shoes or sandals (lol) if u are unsure what type to get ask someone at a shoe shop or something

  2. I personally think it's the shoes and treadmill.  I now have new Nikes for running and never get on a treadmill and I'm just fine.  No more ankle pain or shin splints!

  3. Get off the treadmill and go run on a hiking trail.  It's a much better workout, it will strengthen all the little muscles that the exercise machines miss, it will improve your agility and it's just more fun.  Make sure to start out slowly so you don't fall too much.

  4. It could be the shoes.  If you are not running in specific shoes based on your gait and foot type, then excess strain will be put on your foot and surrounding muscles and tendons.  Go to a running specific store and the staff should be albe to watch you walk and get you in a pair of shoes specific to your weight, gait, arch type, ect....

By the way, the treadmill will provide more cushion than outside, so the treadmill is not the problem
