Soboba Classic tees off today at the San Jacinto Country Club
The Nationwide PGA tour will be staging the Soboba Classic today at the San Jacinto Country Club. The event is a regular four day session which will end on
Sunday 3rd October, 2010.
The event is considered a highlight of the tour on two fronts; Firstly, it is carrying the highest purse on the Nationwide Tour, worth a million US dollars. Secondly, the best golfers on the tour will be appearing in it.
Around 59 of the top 60 players will be participating, making it a tough challenge for all and any players. The only player out of the top 60 who won’t be teeing off is Fran Quinn.  Out of the top 100 players on the tour, 95 of them will be appearing at the
San Jacinto Country Club. The five left over professionals are Fran Quinn, Jarrod Lyle, John Mallinger, Peter Gustafsson and Craig Barlow.
According to the bookies, the two players who will set fire to the field are John Chin and Brendan Steele. Steele, who comes from
Hemet, is ranked 37th on the Nationwide Money index. If Steele manages to finish in the top three of the leader board then he will make his way into the top 25s of the money list. Moreover, a brilliant finish
will earn him a card on the PGA Tour in the next season.
Alistair Presnell too has to perform brilliantly at the tournament to elevate his rank from 25th on the money list to 24th. Presnell will be joined by 14 of his compatriots in the quest
for the one million dollar purse. Out of these 14, Gavin Coles and Ewan Porter are the only two Australians that are in the top 50s. Gavin Coles is 44th and Ewan Porter is 38th   on the list. Jerod Turner, the defending champion, won’t
be seen defending his title as he failed to make the cut. Jerod finished 15th on the Nationwide Tour money list last season, despite being 188th in the Tour standings.
Jerod did not have a worthwhile PGA Tour this season as he managed to make the cut in only eight out of twenty one events. Moreover his best finish was a tie for 48th
place in the Byron Nelson Championship.
