I was on vacation in St. Lucia about a year ago and I heard a song that goes "water, give me water, water cool me down". I'm assuming it would be considered soca. Does anyone know who the artist and what the name of the song may be? It was pretty popular when I went out there because they were playing it everywhere. Thanks in advance.

  1. I am pretty sure it is soca.  It might be this song called Wet Meh by Knycky Corder.  Click on the link provided and see if I am right.

EDIT: Franjah: soca is a style of music from the caribbean.

  2. Sorry - I can't help you - but I hope you can help me!

When you say "Soca" - do you mean "Soccer" (UK Football) or is "Soca" a genre of music I've never heard of?

  3. i don't know the artist but i have been to st lucia many times and most of those songs are traditonal and from indians

  4. Soca = "Soh-Kah" is a music genre which started in the southern Caribbean.

Soca is a fast up tempo music form that some would consider a spinoff from Calypso...  Soca was however created as a blend of Indo-Caribbean(from India) and Afro-Caribbean drumming, percussion and overall vibe...  If you remember the song "Who Let the Dogs Out" from a few years back, or the song "Turn Me On", or even "What Happens in the Party" those are all examples of soca music which has reached the International music scene.

Anyway, the first song that comes to mind with those lyrics is the singer Scrunter from Trinidad???

    Is this the song????

The other song that comes to mind is Iwer George also from Trinidad. He has a fast pace song called "Water"...

    Or one other song:

There's also a few other songs sung by women that have similar lyrics.

Unfortunantly "Water" is a very common phrase in soca music because (a part of the meaning) is like during carnival when the crowd hears the term "water" you're supposed to start throwing water up into the air in frenzy while the music is playing. Its about audience participation.

    My reply.

This song was it a male or female singing lead? Also do you recall the storyline of what the whole song's lyrics were about?

    --------

My last attempt... There's another song that comes to mind.... It has the lyrics you said  I can't think of the artist name, or title of the song but I thought I would try to see if it is the right song to begin with because I had this song on my mind since Saturday...

There's a song with a female that sings....

    Gimme Water, I'm yearning,

    Gimme Water, I'm burning.

    Gimme Water, I'm yearning,

    Gimme Water, I'm burning.

And since (*artist name* Augusta?) touch the ceiling,

    I can't help what I'm feeling,

gimme water, to out de fire down dey--.......

Does that sound like/close to the lyrics for the song you're thinking of???

At first I thought the artist name was Patrice Robers, then I thought the song might have been by Michelle Sylvester, then I thought Sanell Dempster, and finally I think it is Augusta, or it could be Lima Calbio???

But if that is the song there's a line where the artist says their name.
