Martin Tyler, the official commentator to cover the World Cup alongside with ESPN was born in Chester, England on 14th September, 1945. The legend has numerous achievements and trophies and has fulfilled a lifetime of services towards football. One of his famous is his election for the ‘Commentator of the Decade’ by the Football Association, Premier League.
Currently he is employed by BSkyB and ESPN after a semi-professional career with football. The 64 year old used to play for the University of East Angila and the Corinthian Casuals but soon left them when London Weekend Television offered him a job.
Not only has he worked in electronic media but print media too. Tyler worked with the Times magazine giving reviews and opinions about football.
His beginning for a career as a commentator was met by disappointment when he was continuously let down by his boss. Eventually he was struck with luck when the original commentator for LWT was canned and he was the best man for the job.
From there his voice was spread at large and liked by a lot. He soon had offers from around the block, stations wanting to work for him but it was ITV that he eventually singled out. From ITV he shuffled to many other places but it was with ITV that he came first in contact for the presentation of the World Cup. He was included in the 1978 World Cup team for commentating and soon had his first final presentation in the European World Cup Final of 1979.
By 1982 he was heading teams for the World Cup presentation and throughout the rest of the 80s he grew fame for football and football grew fame for him. 1982 was also special for him because in the coverage at Spain he met the love of his life, his future wife.
Near 1990 he joined the British Satellite Broadcasting’s Sports department and grew famous with the BSkyB. Thus his international career with Live commentating of FA Cup game sand Premier League games started. In 1991 BSB and Sky merged together producing a bigger channel which was all the best for him as he was already in contact with both of them.
Recently he has been the main voice heard on the Australian channels with SBS, covering the Cups and Leagues. The 2006 World Cup was his 5th World Cup final as a commentator.
His last big activity before the World Cup 2010 was the covering up of 2009-2010’s FA Cup finals along with co-host Stewart Robson.
His ascend to glory of professional career as commentating came along with Arsenal Football Club in the season of 2003-2004 when they became known as the ‘the Invincible’.
He gave another humongous performance at the 2010 UEFA Champions League Final. Tyler still hasn’t forgotten his career as a writer and often writes for the site of Sky Sports while publishing his reviews all around.
Football isn’t the only sport he has covered. He has commentated on various cricketing occasion especially after 2002. He has lent his voice in movies and video games too. For instance he is a prominent figure with the FIFA series of video games on PS3 and Xbox 360.
The movies in which he has participated are ‘When Saturday Comes’ and the ‘Goal’ series. He has even coached for a brief period of time but had already found his passion of commentating and stuck to it.
Now Tyler is the main commentator for the World Cup team alongside ESPN. Tyler is considered among the world’s best commentators and his productions are proof of that.
Tyler hasn’t actually quit Sky Sports; as Sky Sports doesn’t have TV rights for the World Cup they allowed him to free lance and as predicted he ended up in the lead of the tournament.
Tyler is the kind of person who doesn’t directly link himself to the audience but speaks through the terms of the match and binds his audience to it. After the disastrous campaign by ESPN in the World Cup of 2006 it is predicted they are finally having a pretty good tournament.
