I may be getting the post of coaching the preschoolers for soccer training in the new school term (a month from now). They all in the age group of 3-6year olds & if i am not mistaken the primary school too. But i know definatly the preschoolers. I just wanted to know how do i know who makes the team who does not make the team??? And how do i go about coaching them for matches??? Do i do on technique per 45minute lesson & slot kids who i think are really good in the soccer team if we do have a match??

  1. The rules in our area for U6 is that every child makes a team and every child plays equal.  Score is not kept for matches.

The emphasis is on basic rules and skills and on teamwork and sportsmanship.

There is a lot you can do to make sure the kids understand how to move the ball down the field, protect the ball, get the ball from the other team, pass to team mates, and make a goal.

If they can do those things you should be gold!

    Good Luck

  2. At preschool age, usually everyone gets on the team and everyone plays in the game. Your league can provide you with more specific rules (like how many people can be on the field at once, and whether they get scores).

At that level, the focus is mainly on having fun with physical activity. Some kids are going to catch on faster than others. Some are going to wander around, playing by themselves. But none of them are going to understand different strategies, or be able to stay focused for extended technique sessions. Just let them have fun attempting to play, and try not to let the parents yell at any of the kids.

  3. my daughter started at age 5 and loved it

    keep practice short

everyone plays equal amounts of time

    everyone makes the team

    is it 3-on3?

find a coach of like age groups and ask for advice

contact state or local soccer association for help

find a book on coaching younger kids...it may have some age appropriate games to use to teach and practice skills

  4. You can teach them skills, drills, and techniques, during practice.  Keep it simple.

But just so you know during game time or even if you play a game during practice, All skills, and drills go out the window and it is a free for all after the ball. Just try to remind them to stay on their feet and keep their hands off the ball.

At this age everyone playes, and no score is keep. Team normally have 10 players with 5 playing at a time, with no goalie, just a sweeper.

  5. i think this will help them in their self esteem and it helps them learn teamwork and hard work as well...

  6. i think at this level you should just keep everyone on the team and if you have a match you should try to put everyone in if only for a minute or two... of course play the better ones more but make sure they don't get too much playing time
