  1. We put our club teams together over a month ago, is this for a club or something else?

If it is a club team, the staff will look at exactly how many positions they plan on looking for based on returning players and desired roster size. If we want 16 players on the roster and 11 are returning, we will look to have 3-4 solid players committed by the end of the second tryout as it is very competitive here. We almost always hold 1 or 2 spots open in for a special player that might come along, and if good enough will even add them after the season starts.

The best advice I could give is to really listen and show that you work hard on any drills and scrimmages that they run. It will be difficult to change your ability is such a short time, so you are basically what you are right now. Effort and discipline can often make some difference. Depending on your age, tactics are very important, so pay close attention to how you are told to play and remember that it is often better to slow down and pass back than to look good cutting through 5 people before sending the ball out the end line for a goal kick. Have a purpose in what you do.

If it is high school, you basically do the same thing but are not quite as pressured to make the cut the first day or two. These coaches are usually not as knowledgeable as the top club coaches, so they often look more at pure athletic ability than at your true ability. Someone comes along and does one good step over move to get by a defender and the coach loves them, when they might never amount to more than a dribble and give the ball up show.

Either way, drink a lot of water in the evenings and get enough sleep. If you like the powerbars, look for whole grain as these tend to help longer. Above all, try to demonstrate to the coaches that you are willing to work to make the team and that it is important to you to improve your abilities.

  2. Well for tryouts play hard all day all week! But don't show the coach everything you've got all in the morning of the first day, save some for later. But always give it your all! Do what the coach asks and be quick about it!

To prepare your self stay hydrated, even now! Start drinking a lot of water a day or so before! I have also heard that drinking sports drinks after you cool down will keep your energy up! As for power bars, idk they DO give you energy but then you crash! So I wouldn't chance it! Although there is one that I have tried and liked called tiger's milk. I didn't really crash after wards, but I don't think I would take that risk for tryouts! Just get a lot of sleep, that's the best energy there is!

Good Luck! Hope you make the team!!!!

  3. You should prepare by putting it in your mind that you can make the team and nothing is stopping you...power bars are ok but i would go with a very high complex carb breakfast such as a wheat bread not white...dont for get to get a lot of potasium (bananas has it) it will prevent you from getting cramps in rusult of the running and consumption of water...pase your self but try hard because that is quite a long try out unless its a really good team...when you go home take a cold shower to get your body temp. down
