Question:

Social Anxiety Disorder medication?

I'm a 15 year old boy. I be 16 in November. I will be going into my sophomore year this year. I believe that I have social anxiety disorder. I get very anxious around crowds. I have a horrible time talking to other people. When it comes to speeches I feel like I'm going to die. I have a rapid heartbeat, sweaty palms, nausea, dizziness, and I feel like running away. I know most people are scared about public speaking but it seems extreme for me. I noticed there are medications that consist of a very light dose of anxiety calming medicine. Do you think it would be right for me? Like I would only need to take it in certain situations. Also, I have a very stressful life at home and I get distracted from school work and other things because of it. Please give me your recommendation on what I should do. Thank you! I'm nervous about talking to my mom about it because she's totally against me taking drugs. She doesn't even want me to take cold medicine when I'm sick. But I honestly think it would help.

  1. smoke some weed. it will make you chill out. dont smoke too much tho. that will mess u up even worse.

lol and if u dont wanna go down that road, just try meditating, (yeah, i know it sounds stupid, but it really does help. before giving a speach, just lie ur heard down on your desk, put ur palms up to the seiling, and take deep breaths in through your nose, and out through your mouth. but while doing this DONT THINK ABOUT ANYTHING. just clear your mind. lol and you dont have to look like your meditaing in class. you can do it with your arms crossed, just remember to keep your palms up.

    hope this helps.

  2. sign me up...

    i have the same problem.

    Life can suck.

  3. try seeing a therapist for a while. your young it is better to teach your brain better ways to control the ways you stress. med don't aways help.

  4. I'm 14 and i have the same problem, feeling weird around a crowd is normal for me, best thing you can do is get up the balls to talk to some of em(say at school) don't hide yourself, if they don't like you or call you weird just do what i do give em a blank stair and say "I'm not weird, your weird"

as for speeking, i used to freek out break down all that good stuff the only real cure is pratcice TONS of it, i know it sucks really bad but its the only way(deep breaths help me alot)

and as for your mom, im not sure if your the rebel that hates her, the misunderstood kid whatever, don't be afraid to open up to her(she wants to help) my moms always helped me when ive had problems like this, as for drugs, they blow.  for me my favroite band and some skittles  help me feel better(and no sideeffects the perfect cure)

  5. Most of the time before a doctor prescribes you psychotropic medications they normally want you to see a therapist and determine if therapy can help the problem. If it does not then they may consider medication as one of the last alternatives.

  6. dude i have exactly the same problem...well not that  bad when talking to people but i suck at speeches and my hands sweat way too much.........u just need to chill down dude............... elkevs8@hotmail.com if u need to talk to someone about it........
