I know there are a lot of extremes in regards to the environment and they tie into political parties. WITHOUT siding with any candidate or political party please describe to in a short ESSAY a balance and reasonable position for a person to live environmentally responsibly and how should their actions evolve their lifestyle to more effectively take care of the environment.

  1. I have always thought it was a shame that the being environmentally responsible could be political. I strive to live a sustainable life. I believe the average American way of life is creating a world that will not be able to sustain humans in the future. We are polluting our water and air, we are burying ourselves in packaging that breaks down into toxic chemicals in landfills and will eventually leach into our ground water. Every year we increase the amount of energy we use per person in this country. I believe it is each of our personal responsibility to reduce our negative impact on the earth.

I live what looks like a typical suburban life, I have a big house, 2 cars (both hybrids) and don't wear hemp. We have taken most of the toxins out of our cleaning supplies and beauty products, I'm always learning and hope someday to be able to pronounce every ingredient of every product in my house. I have dramatically reduced my energy usage in my house and have purchased solar panels to offset the rest. The majority of what I eat was grown locally and organically some if it in my own yard. I am in the process of removing 2 large areas of lawn to grow food and to conserve water. I have dramatically reduced plastics in my life, as well as disposable or single use items. I avidly recycle. I buy recycled content on all my paper products, both for the bathroom and the classroom. I buy recycled content, organic and sustainable clothing and household items.

I know many people say going green can be expensive, I have to disagree. When the 1st principal is to reduce, you automatically save money. I make a conscience choice with each purchase I make. I think about what I need and what the lifecycle of the product will be before I buy it.

What could be more socially responsible than supporting my local community and trying to keep the earth clean enough to support human life? I also belong to a couple of groups that keep me informed about what my elected officials are doing, so I have the opportunity to have my voice heard.
